Has anyone fished Lake Bonham - the 1,000 acre reservoir, not the lake at Bonham State Park? I want to scout it out this weekend and noticed that there’s a small ramp north of the dam that looks like it’s used by folks without trailers. The larger ramp is south of the dam and has a big parking lot for trailers.

Is the smaller ramp reasonably safe from vehicle break-ins or does it have a history?

I’d like to hear from anyone with experience at this lake. Thanks.

I've fished it several times, and used both ramps. I've used the smaller ramp less often and not had any issue. I am not aware of any bad history but it definitely is just at the end of a road through a neighborhood. Remember that lake requires a permit of its own.

There are no fish in sonic pond EDIT: Except 1 20lb catfish

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll probably launch a little later than I usually do and use the south ramp a couple of times and run by the north ramp on the way home to scope it out better.

I think that the launch permit is required for watercraft that are required to register with the state. Canoes, kayaks, and pedal boats are exempted.
