Does the TS mean triple shot? Do you really get side scan, down scan and 2D? This unit only cost about 400...

Yes, you will get sidescan, downscan and 2d sonar with all Tripleshot transducers. The 7x version has a gps chartplotter....this means you will be able to see waypoints routes and tracks but you will not be able to see lake maps and it does not accept any form of mapping card. If you aren't concerned about having lake maps, go for it! It's a good graph

The 7x does not have side scan - (the”x”) indicates it only uses the Split Shot transducer. If you want side scan using the triple shot transducer look for the Hook2 model without an “x”.

“X” means no card slot for lake map chips Triple shot does have sidesscan
I think it’s a good value if you don’t need lake maps

On all Lowrance HOOK2 series units, '5,7,9' is the size of the screen, 'HDI' provides sonar & downscan, 'TS' gives you the addition of sidescan and the 'x' means no mapping.

Thank you for all the responses. Rob, when you say TS gives you the addition of sidescan, does that mean I have ot buy additional parts, like another transducer, or should I get everything I need when I buy that model? I do not care about the maps... I can use Navionics for that.

Just putting this out there but The GPS Store currently has the HDS 7 Carbon with Totalscan transducer included for $699. They are new units (not reconditioned). It will have everything you need plus a lot you don't need.
To whom much is given, much is required.

Jake, the TS model comes with transducer brackets, everything you need. The HOOK2 7X is a great buy if you don't need the mapping.

OK, so I got it... did not get it on the boat, but am sitting in the house playing around with it and it seems cool so far. Question: There is a slot on the side for an SD card... cant find anything online as to why I would need it. I was told that since it is an x series I cannot upload maps, so what else would the SD card be used for? Just saving the dots/coordinates from the chart plotting or something?

The SD card slot is for Lowrance software (operating system) updates that may come out in the future for the 7XTS model.
