Got some bait pretty easily this morning. Fished bass first 2 hours after sun up and did well. Had 5 lmb and a nice spot. Then went to catfishing. Lots of bait around. Only one bite. Little dink. Let him go after not catching another.

Yup better than a day at the office! And the bass fishing has been pretty good early in the day out there the last several weeks.
Wonder if the catfishing might pick up once it cools off some? Its been just brutal hot the last several weeks.

Nice work Gato! You are much better looking than I thought you might be!
Last week I tried some of that area you shared with me. Was a bit too windy to drift it well but I see the potential and will go back there again soon. Has access to water deeper than I can typically (safely) get to on the yak on most days. I feel like yesterday I was marking some cats under the sandbass (who were under the shad) but man they had no interest in the cut gill's or the gizzard shads OR the chicken breast soaked in dead-red over night with my own garlic/salt/herbs and spices home made marinade.
When I get my hands on some of these blues they are going to pay! I am going to make fish stew like a mo-fo!
Gato I will hook you up with some.

Lmao! Getting to the fish is going to be your biggest obstacle fishing by yak Dan. Can’t just up and move locations if the fish aren’t cooperating. This time of year you pretty much gotta go early morning or just before dark to increase your chances of finding active feeding fish. If we get some cloudy, windy, rainy weather then they will feed well into the day but August is usually one of the toughest months for daytime Bluecatn.

You aint kidding either Gato!
I mean that one day it rained and got really cloudy and I caught 5 nice ones in an hour. Then the rain went away and the sun came out and nothing.
What do those suckers just sit down there on the bottom and not do anything if its sunny? I know (suspect) they are going to follow the shad all day? The schools of shad are moving constantly. This I know. I can follow them. I can see them on my electronics and verify them with my throw net. So I know they are shad and they are on the move...all damn day. So do the cats just follow them and the sandies around and then get their attack on when (IF) they get hungry?
Or (like a bass) do they sit on a spot they like that they know the shad will come by. Points, ledges, humps work as they can scatter the shad. They hang out there and then when the shad come by bust them all unsuspecting like.
This fish make no sense at all. They got me all kind of sideways... I am going to kill them and make stew once I catch them slipping!

During the daytime you can find them out deeper close to the areas I been showing you. You can find acres of them on the bottom all mixed in with bait. You can drift through 1000s of em and never get a nibble when they are all mixed in. I won’t get a line wet until I find fish pushing bait balls.

You might try some worms. Only thing they would bite on for me one morning. Previous night only shad. Next night either shad or worms.

Hot August days are tough to catch catfish. On the Tennessee River I'm targeting water 40 feet deep or more, with a few holes as deep as 75. We don't have the inversion layer so they go deep during the heat. I did find a ledge on the river channel. Drifted it with cut perch and had constant action until I ran out of bait. Wouldn't bite anything else I put down in front of them. But I am ready for some cooler weather so I can stay out longer.
He is truly a sick individual.
