Well, this personal notice comes a bit earlier than I expected to announce, but I realized I accidentally spilled the beans. I would like everyone to know that the time has come for Deep Sea Headquarters and I to part ways. For the first time in my life, I can honestly say that this summer has been very difficult. I can no longer provide the product that I've always promised, and tried to give to customers. Mainly because I'm exhausted. It's a humbling statement, but I am too old to continue running as hard as I have. My performance , and results there of, have begun to falter. Continuing on could only be detrimental to the enjoyment I hope my clientele experiences. Of course, and more importantly, safety is the number one factor this should be taken into account in any type of profession, and the exhaustion I am experiencing could possibly lead to an accident or an incident. I cannot stand by and let that happen.

I'm not certain where I will wind up, but the one thing I know, is that, while I decide, I will finally be able to rest, for the first time in almost 10 years. Running a headboat has been rewarding, in many respects, but now is the time for me to consider other options. Providing for my family and expanding my professional experiences remain my priority. I need to find a position that isn't so taxing on the body, and more importantly, my mind.

To anyone concerned about future, or upcoming, trips, I would just like to reassure you that my replacement will be a committed individual. Deep Sea Headquarters does, and always has, strived to hire, and retain, the most dedicated captains and crew that can be found. I've been treated better by this company than any other Texas fishing company has ever treated me, by leaps and bounds, and because of this, I know the caliber of individual, that will be my replacement, will be a good one. A couple assurances: no Captain that runs the Pelican will ever sit in the wheelhouse unless he's required to drive, or maneuver, to fish more effectively, will ever have a failed fishing trip due to lack of effort or care, and will always strive to improve and develop ever-changing fishing techniques, to capitalize on working around the regulations that currently are crippling the industry.

Change is hard, but you can rest assured that you always be treated well, and given the best time possible, when you book with Deep Sea Headquarters.

Capt. James L. Wheeler, Jr.

I only made it down for one trip with you, but it was a good one! By far the biggest fish I've caught so far.

Good luck in the next chapter!

Sorry to see you go James but I understand.

You and your crew always seemed as excited to go fishing as the people who paid for the trip.
