It was just announced that Briggs and Stratton will be shutting down it’s Murray plant by fall 2020.

In a small community like this, losing 600 jobs is a gut punch. Virtually every part of the community will share the economic pain.

My heart goes out to the families who have no idea where they will find work. Most will have to look outside the area.

In Fairfield Tx the coal mine and power plant shut down . many lost their jobs and a lot of the local support business's

soon began to feel the pinch. Our local paper stated that our tax revenue was the lowest its been in 18 years.

Everyone suffers. Sad for some families that had to relocate to make a living.

I feel for the town but Murray lawnmowers are about the biggest pile of dung ever made

Are they sending production to another plant in the US or is it going Offshore?

Same in Rockdale, tree huggers tried for 30 yrs to shut it down. Finally happened, 3-4 school districts felt the revenue crunch and several small town businesses lost a lot of income.

Hopefully they can lure something to replace it. I lived in Jonesboro, AR in the 80's when several Fortune 500 companies shut down - GE, Dupont, ADT, Penn tennis balls, and one or two more. However the mayor, city council, development commission, and chamber of commerce worked very closely in that town as a team and got some new manufacturing facilities to come in like Ekrich, General Foods, a large office furniture manufacturer, and an 18-wheeler trailer plant. They hardly missed a beat because they continuously were working to draw in new companies. In that case, it was all about cooperation with everyone involved. This had nothing to do with anything but companies' bottom lines and the necessity to stay competitive - at that time outsource to China, Puerto Rico, and Mexico where wages are 1/4 or more less than here.

It will be a hard sell to get someone in there.

Transportation issues. Nearest freeway fifty miles. No rail service. Nearest full service airport is BNA...100 miles away.

Hate to hear that. Learned long ago if you want to stay with the money you need to move with the money.
