Plano supe drops week 2 football game against Ysleta ISD member Eastwood HS because of security concerns.

What security concerns?? Be specific. Or is that An excuse and he just didn’t want to make that trip?

Police said they had no concerns. El Paso school said they had no concerns and wanted to play. Seems to me like its a missed opportunity to show solidarity.

Well, it’s a she supe, and El Paso was to come to Plano. The Wal Mart shooter graduated from Plano but Plano West I believe.

I can see both sides of this. Can you imagine what a circus that week would be. All of the national media would be involved. Good luck trying to get high school kids to focus on trying to play a game. On the other hand, it would be a good opportunity to come together. Their security concerns could be legit. There will be a small group from one side or the other that will try and start something. Heck, you get that on a normal game. I say put some extra police around the stadium and play ball.

I understand this has been done for a couple of years. Disregarding the current situation... Why are they doing this anyway? My boys played 8 man ball. We traveled 100's of miles for some games. It was brutal. and costly for the families.

This was my first thought why are they traveling this far anyway...seems very wasteful but that is what school districts seem to do these days. They are great at spending taxpayer $$$$. There is zero reason they should be playing a normal HS game traveling that distance unless maybe for a playoff or championship type game.

That said I agree with the above it looks bad and poorly thought out but again IMO should have never been happening in the first place.

I live in the Odessa/ Midland area and have all my life. I have been to El Paso twice (2) and that was enough for me.

Game was scheduled here. I would think there would have been protestors show up. Not a bad decision!

This is why superintendents hate having to make these kinds of calls. Some one is going to be unhappy and arm chair it regardless of the decision.
