What exactly would they be protesting ?

Headlights on at boat ramps is my guess. If not, maybe it’s labradoodles. Hell, I don’t know. Quit asking me so many questions.

I've heard they make outstanding hunting dogs.

After reading the quotes in this article, I think it’s a terrible decision and a knee-jerk reaction over something that may happen, but there is no evidence to support it will happen.

https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/hi...-game-plano-senior-high-el-paso-eastwood

Quote
"After consulting with local law enforcement agencies, Plano ISD administrators felt obligated to prioritize the safety of the participating players, students, families and communities, and have concluded that the timing of the game falls too soon after the tragedy in El Paso," Plano ISD's release said Thursday.

[snip]

Quote
“We grieve with our neighbors in El Paso and are heartbroken that what is happening in society today is affecting our kids and our communities," said Plano ISD Superintendent Sara Bonser. "Our students and coaches were eager for this opportunity to come together with Eastwood High to promote a message of compassion and healing, but what should be a celebratory event would be encumbered by safety concerns for the participants and fans of both teams. Our top priority must be the safety of all."
However, the game wasn't canceled because there were credible threats surrounding the event, said David Tilley, a public information officer for the Plano Police Department.
"There were none, whatsoever, at all," he said.
The game would have had enhanced security from both the Plano and Murphy departments, Tilley said.
But when Bonser expressed her concerns about the game to Plano police chief Greg Rushin -- namely that it could potentially provide a platform for those with extremist political agendas to amplify their message -- Rushin agreed with Bonser's assessment, Tilley said.

Plus, if you read the bottom of that article, it says Eastwood offered to play on a neutral site, but the decision process didn’t involve coaches.

This is, as WAWI said, a bad look.

No politics, but agree with the above. With exploding school property tax rates, education costs and a supposed effort to reduce fuel consumption, why would a high school think it necessary to bus (or fly) a football team, equipment, cheerleader, band, etc., nearly halfway across the country to play a game. Especially when the best competition for Plano is right here in the Metroplex. Maybe it was booster club funded, who knows.

Whoever made the decision for Plano & El Paso School districts to play each other should be fired for wasting Tax Payer money.
The game itself should have never been scheduled.
When the schools start producing kids who can read, write ,add, subtract, multiply & divide & talk to someone intelligently without the assistance of an electronic device, then maybe consider this.

Everyone should be outraged at the decision to spend the money for this game. My school taxes are stupid for what we get in return.

The cost of the game is a mere flesh wound in comparison to what is spent on these gaudy football stadiums like Katy ISD’s $70.3 million Legacy Stadium, Prosper’s $48 million Children's Health Stadium, and Spring ISD’s $38.9 million Planet Ford Stadium.

The game was canceled because it was going to turn the City of Plano into a media circus with Pro-Trump demonstrators, anti-Trump demonstrators, pro-gun rights demonstrators and anti-gun demonstrators all parading about. The media would come to cover the human aspect of the game and the demonstrators would come for the camera opportunity. The Chief of Police doesn't want to referee the mess. The Mayor doesn't want the bad publicity. The Superintendent can shut it all down and she did so in the name of risk avoidance and job security (her own).

She made a smart decision. Risk outweigh the reward. Good for her.

No not a playoff contract, you don’t know who you’re playing in the playoffs from week to week. These contracts have been around for years. If you’ll read 6. in the contract there’s a penalty in there for breaching the contract. I’m not sure of your line of work but I’ve been involved with HS football over 34 years. I usually can answer your questions. bolt

I'm in the it would be a good opportunity to heal category. Playing the game shows hate can't win in Texas/America. People have seemed to forgotten that whites and Latino's have coexisted fine since the 1830's. Playing the game says nothing has changed because of one mental case that was filled with hate.

Poor choice of wording on my part. You’re correct, should have said as close to normalcy as possible.

Not sure how taxpayer money got involved in this discussion. Booster clubs usually foot the bill on these trips. In this case I’m pretty sure Plano was paying for travel and whatnot. I’m not 100% sure but in many cases this happens. And as bad as it sounds those football programs bring in much more money into the district than the Debate team and Robotics club.

And blacklab I agree with you on the electronic devices but the schools doesn't buy those for the kids their parents make that purchase.

It's football. High school football at that.
