Me and some friends will be going down to Galveston for a tarpon trip and would like to do some fishing on the side. We are just looking to get into some trout, reds, flounder, shark or anything fun to catch.

I was thinking either the jetty on Boliver Pass, the Texas City dike or maybe a pier. Any ideas or suggestions on places that would be best to fish early in the morning or later in the evening would be appreciated.

right now the surf is paying off on the west end if the wind will cooperate. wading the bay around sea isle or the state park should work also.

That will be the perfect time for tarppn. The bull reds will really start running the surf around San Luis pass area. My favorite time of year to fish the area.

Yeah, Surf and Jetties. Bull reds, and trout in the surf too in that area of San Luis Pass or the Galveston Jetties.. trick will be getting a wind that will make it fishable for the angler. Fish will be there but sometimes the winds make it not accessible for us as anglers. Look for a light south calm to 10mph, or NE, N, NW light less than 15 ish. You can fish the jetties with a little more 'surf' but only until you start getting sloshed by the waves crashing. South Jetty is good on a NW, N, or NE winds to 18 in the fall. Should be great time for bull in sept and october.

Where is the south Jetty located? Is this the one by East Beach? Is there a way to it other than driving through the beach (no 4x4)?

I really appreciate the info on the spots to fish.

What would be the best bait to use for those bull reds in the surf? Live mullet? Shrimp?

You don't have drive on the beach. The Sea Wall Blvd will run all the way to the Jetties. North and South Jetties run parallel. Actually, the jetties themselves run East and West with the Ship Channel between. Be aware of the Dangers fishing around SLP, especially wading. I think there are warning signs up....NO Fishing. BTW: If you have any cuts, open cuts or wounds, beware of wading. VIBRIO is the key word here.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at this on Google Maps and it shows the road ending long before the jetty.

seawall dead ends , you have to walk down a hill to get to the south jetty . to get to the part of the south jetty where you can fish both sides , you will have to drive on the beach . believe you have to pay an entrance fee also . i may be wrong on that . to get to the north jetty , you have to take the ferry across the ship channel . unless you go really early, prepare for a wait . there's a lot of variables that control that wait . be carefull on the rocks , they can get slicker than owl poop sometimes . good luck

you can't show them the light if you keep them covered in hate .
