I'm looking at upgrading to a newer model Skeeter and the deck layout has me perplexed as to what design is functionally better for me.

My current Skeeter has rod lockers on the sides with two separate compartments in the center and a day box in front of the helm.

I do like the concept of two day boxes (team deck on ZX) but the thought of having to open the side lids to get to tackle whilst having 3 rods on the deck doesn't seem logical. Retrieving tackle is the most common need and should be the most accessible without concern for rods on the deck.

The previous model ZX's have the large single hatch in the center for a couple of rods and tackle, which seems most logical.

What say you TFF members with time spent in Skeeter's with these various configurations? Particularly if you have co-anglers.

I'm not sure that I would like the new ZX layout but I haven't fished out of one. Good reason to get an FX if possible.

.

Try installing a rod strap on the storage compartment doors (I use this one, cheap and effective https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/marine-raider-boat-rod-strap#repChildCatid=12992) then you can open the storage with the rods attached to the door, also keeps the rod handles further back for more front deck space.

Markson....this is the concept Phoenix uses on their deck lids and I just can't understand why Skeeter hasn't incorporated this design into their boats?!?!?
