For the AR, I'd want it as a jeep gun. Maybe a red dot, or a scope up to about 3-4X. I'd like to be able to shoot it at night also.
Is the Diamondback AR a decent gun? I have a diamondback DB-15 with an aimpoint pro on it. I changed the trigger and most of the controls and it is a good rifle. Shoots fine suppressed too. Just my

The O.P. wasn't clear. Are we talking about a gun for hunting, or a civil war? Asking for a friend.

The appeal for an AR would be less if a company would make a semi auto that was accurate. They all suck, Browning auto Rifle, and Remington 7400 or model 8. None are good for mowing down a herd of cattle. I think a lot of that accuracy problem is created by cleaning them through the muzzle. I ruined what had been a good shooting Remington 760 pump by doing that. Tried the re-crowning thing with the lapping compound but too much damage. I've seen Nylon or Delrin guides that will slip over the outside of the barrel with a hole centered for the cleaning rod to keep it straight into the bore so it can't drag on the crown but i didn't have one of those.

My Rock River AR15 was my go to weapon for coyote and hogs when riding around the ranch. My RR AR10 in .308 was my sniper rifle for hogs. I do miss my Texas hunting.

Go with the bolt gun for hunting. After you've gotten all the rifles and calibers you want, then consider an AR. I have two. A Bushmaster with a 20" match-grade bbl in .223, and a Wilson Combat 18" bbl 7mm-08.

ARs are plenty accurating for hunting at 25-150 yards, even cheap ones. You want to push the limits on smaller game or longer distances, you'll either need to go with the bolt gun or spend more on the AR. My $500 Ruger AR is really sweet. I had a Rock River years ago that was extremely accurate with a great trigger that cost about double the Ruger ($1000 vs $500).
Nothing wrong with a bolt gun either. Both good options. I'm of the opinion that any gun owner should have at least one AR.

Couple of questions for you here... I think I am a fan of the snubbed barrels. Do they have an affect on accuracy, recoil, noise, etc? Is the suppressor as effective as it was on the 18" barrel? How do you like that combination scope with the red dot on top? Any trouble snapping off quick shots with the red dot, ie. do you get confused where you are looking when shooting in a hurry? Also a general question on suppressors - how effective are they when firing regular supersonic ammo? And does supersonic ammo damage the suppressor?
