We just got back from a great week long family vacation at Bolivar. Didn't get a ton of fishing in this trip since, it was a family vacation but, did manage a shark and two nice sized hard heads. Used sting ray, squid, mullet and dead shrimp, the times I was able to get out. The cool thing about the trip was that I was able to meet up with Cody Davis, owner of Green Tide Surf Fishing, one evening and fish a bit with him. Seriously, if you are looking to come down to Bolivar and learn about surf fishing; he is your guy. Oh yeah, Cody gave us 15 crabs to boil so, needless to say, we went full on Cajun one night for dinner! Also, if you are looking for bait, visit DJ's Bait on 87 in Crystal Beach. Super nice family running the shop and they have great prices and carries sting ray; it's hard to find sting ray in Bolivar.

Anyway, here are some pictures from the trip. I laugh, since I have done this more than once. When you don't get pictures of fish, then you have to shoot the sunrise picture, LOL!

Every time I see pics of rods in those PVC pipes on the beach, it reminds me of the setup we used in N. Carolina. Instead of PVC pipe, a lot of folks used a single leaf spring with a metal military canteen cup welded to it to hold bait and and pieces of angle iron welded horizontal near the lower end of the spring to assist in pushing it into the ground. When a large fish is hooked, the spring will bend with the rod and retract to help with a good hook set. Glad you had a good time.
