I've been fishing Lady Bird every Sunday morning for awhile now. For the last month the fishing has been slow, nothing to report but catching 10-15 sunfish and small LMB. This weekend the number of fish didn't change (15), but I did catch a PB Bluegill at 10.5 inches.
I put in at Austin HS and headed NW towards Redbud Island, fishing the south bank heading out and the north bank coming back. Fished from 6 am to 11 am. Water temp was 85 degrees, air temp was already 80 when I put in. Caught 14 sunfish/bluegill all in 8-12 of water around brush and tree limbs. All on a 9/32 oz black/silver shiner pattern crankbait. Caught one small (less than 2 pound) LMB on a chrome Rattle Trap in 14 of water on the drop off where one of the creeks enters the lake.
I was fishing with a light spinning rod and 6 lb test with the drag set at around 5 lb. The big blue gill actually started pulling line against the drag while I was backing the kayak out into open water to keep her out of the brush. Sorry for the picture quality...haven't mastered the selfie function yet and I wanted to get the fish back in the water quickly so someone else can have the thrill of catching her next year (hopefully she'll be up to 11" next time I see her.)
