Will be babysitting the grandson next week in Skiatook (20 miles north of Tulsa). Got him his first fishing rod/reel and would love to help him catch his first fish (bluegill, redear, bream, perch, goggle eye, whatever you call 'em). Any ponds or small lakes in that area where we are virtually assured of getting bites from the bank? Don't have to be big - just be there and be hungry for a bit of worm. Thanks!

You might want to try in the internet ! Google the area on water bodies to fish. Hope you find some nice places to take your grandson and catch some fish. Let us know how you do.

Plus #1. The net would be your best bet! thumb

Side Note: Hopefully you can get some personal information as well! Glad to see you are going to take your Grandson Fishing. That is AWESOME! cheers

Why not fish Lake Skiatook? The marina would be a good place to start.

Thanks, guys. I tried fishing Lake Skiatook from the bank a couple years ago without any luck, but I was after bass at that time, not sunfish. I may try there again or may drive on to Pawhuska Lake which is supposed to have a nice sunfish population. Thought I found a good target in Collinsville (Collinsville City Lake) but from what I read the weeds get high in the summer and really limit access to the water. Just want to maximize the chances that the little guy catches a fish his first time out.

Yes the key to turning young ones into lifetime fishermen is to make sure they catch fish when they first start.

I had moved from KansasCity to south Texas and shortly afterwards the grand kids come for a visit. Not knowing the area I took them to a local catfish pay lake. They had a blast and cost a smal fortune . Worth every dime.

Good luck

There used to be a catfish pond near Denton where you paid by the pound and they cleaned the fish for you. Took my older son there when he was about 4. He had a great time catching the fish but after he watched the cleaning he turned into a vegetarian! That lasted about a year or so when he could not resist a hotdog at a Cowboys preseason game.
