I was wondering if anyone could tel me where the strippers or sand bass are best at this time of year.. not looking for anything specific or wanting to take your honey hole, just a part of the lake would be helpful.. our lake house is by the dam but a lot of people have been telling me to go to the other end of the lake.. anyways Iโ€™m looking to take my 6 year old daughter and 12 year old son out this afternoon so any help would be appreciated..

I'm in the same boat but it is my 8 and 11 year old Sunday through Tuesday. Want to get them on as many fish as I can. Any help?

Fish are shallow, as in less than 20 feet deep due to thermocline. Horizontal approach has worked the best. Swim baits and cranks, natural color or pearl.

Fished the south end today. Found a couple in 25 FOW in the treetops and a couple in mouth of sloughs along with a couple cats. All on shad. Crazy story that i almost dont believe myself. Reeling in a cat about 16 inches and when getting near top of water a big striper was right with it. I have seen striper follow other striper to the top but not follow a catfish!!! anyone else seen this?

That's wild. Thanks for the info. Hopefully we can have enough success that the tube can stay deflated.

I totally identify with that!!! Life of a family man I guess.

It's only a good cast if you catch a fish...

Back in the 90's i would see school's of striper chase a hooked BB back to the dock and schools of BB chase a hooked striper.

Jackwagon: Glad to hear you saw a striper. I have not seen or caught one in months. All I am catching at night at green lights and lighted docks are huge perch and LM Bass. All caught on live shad.

At least the water is clearing up, Sandies schooling north of Costello early mornings and evenings, week ago. I'm heading out tomorrow and if I see them schooling I'll stop in and grab a few.

I got the my saltwater fix and should start fishing PK as early as this weekend.
Took about two months off from PK once the fishing slowed down..
Iโ€™ll hunt them up and let yโ€™all know something.
Should do a small recon mission this weekend.

One thing you can do with your kids and a tube......Put life jackets on the kids and pull them slowly along while you fish live bait. If you think thumping brings them in!
When the boy in the picture were little I used to tear them up while they played behind the boat on the tube..

Enjoyed a change of pace and caught some big red crappie! [Linked Image]

Very nice Randy Wood. Good looking Red Crappie, wish TPWD would stock those in PK.

Glad you are back Randy. I am hoping to see if you can catch a striper at PK. I have not caught one in several weeks despite fishing all the time. Not bummed out though, bait is super easy and I've got enough perch and LM bass to eat fish all winter. PK must have the largest population of magnum bluegills of any lake in TX.

Seems like once the floodgates stay open a long time the stripers take that as a que to head back to the sea. We had such a big supply of stripers before the floods it seemed like they kept the sandbass population down. Still catching an occasional one now and then but nothing like in past years when I could take guests out to the green lights on gains bend and watch them catch sandbass on every cast until they got tired.

I had the same thing happen to me on Texoma. I had about a 14" blue cat and about a 10 pound striper followed it all the way to the top. It was pretty amazing.

I know catfish like to roll a lot when they are hooked, so I wonder if that rolling flash looks like a wounded fish and provokes the striper to attack. hmmm
