Hit the lake at sunrise with my dad and his buddy. At 82 and 77 respectively, I had my hands full. They brought their minnows and I brought my jigs. Started out on a rocky point and managed 1 sand bass. Moved to Brush piles. First one, nothing. Moved to 2nd BP and caught about 15. On to BP 3 and it was covered in fish, but all where perch. Managed 1 crappie. On to BP 4. Managed 1 more Crappie. On to BP 5 and.proceded to catch about another 15. Called it a day at 11:00 due to heat. Dad and his friend both using minnows couldn't keep up with the jigs. Best jig of the day was a tiny clear Slab Bandit dipped in chartreuse spike it on a 1/16 Bonehead pink jig with spinner. Kept 15 fish over 11" with a 14" for big fish.
If your hitting the lake, take plenty of cold water, sunscreen, hat and long sleeve shirt. Good luck.

Just the opposite for us. Started at 6:30, fished until 11:00. Caught and released 51. Most nice keepers. A few on jigs but after switching to minnows it really picked up. Big fish was 15". All on brushpiles.

Got hot , came home.

Ernest, Jig bite was better than I was expecting. I figured they would slay them on minnows, but that wasn't the case. I feel you can be a lot more aggressive with a jig. Noticed a lot of larger bait in the water, but fish still wanted smaller jigs. Glad to hear you had a good day.

A Small Hand Tied jig with the Tail dipped in Chartreuse Spike it can be just as productive as minnows in my experience.

I have a problem Hogon. My current tackle box is an ice chest to hold 5 color coded jig selections. If I start adding hand ties to the mix, I might need a bigger boat for it all. I think I am going to hold off on them till I retire in a few years. At least if your working today, I hope you have week day off and the lake to yourself.

Today was great. Rick and I had 55 on the counter at 11:00. All released. A few hit minnows early but after 8:00 they preferred small jigs. Either a small 1/16 oz hand tied with a #8 hook or same jig head with a 1.25" slab bandit. I call it sneak attack. Anything bigger would not get much action.

Best luck on brushpiles in 16'-18' water. Tried some underwater trees but not much at home.

Second time out with my new Garmin 8610xsv. Incredible upgrade. four times the pixels per sq. inch. touch screen zooms right in on the area you want to see. Makes your jig look like a tennis shoe down there. I will post a video as soon as I get time to make one

Good to know small baits are still the ticket. Didnt get a single fish on larger baits yesterday.
