I recently bought a Lowrance Hook 9. I haven't installed it yet, but I noticed that the power cable has essentially two cables: one is the pos/neg for the battery, and one is like 5 seperate wires of all different colors. The little instructions in the box label this cable the "data cable."
Can anybody help me figure out what this data cable is for? I'm assuming to link multiple units together but I can't find any information anywhere.
Thanks in advance.

unless you have any NMEA 0183 devices, just tape over those wires ( or bundle them up and tape them all together to get out of the way ).
on the HDS units there's a YELLOW wire that's used to connect to a StructureScan box and the yellow cable is designed to allow it to wake up/turn on with the On/off button of the HDS unit.. ( ie.. when you turn on HDS is also turns on the SS box ).
IN your case.. just install the power lead ( red/black ) and connect the transducer cahle and you should be good to go.
