A couple years ago I had a run in with the guy that runs the Marina on Ray Roberts. About fishing the boat slips , long story short game wardens took his side .
I am looking for proof one way or the other

I would love to hear from the game warden why you can't fish the marina.

I know all of the GWs Id love to hear which one told him that because we have some very smart ones here. Are you sure it wasn't a park cop?

It probably has to do with the marina being a commercial establishment.

We deal with something similar on Greer's Ferry in Arkansas, where the marina owners on that lake were able to organize and gather enough support with the right policy makers to pass and gain enforcement of a rule that you cannot fish within 50 feet of a commercial marina or their boat stalls at any time.

A dock worker politely explained this to me one day while I was fishing their stalls (I was new to the lake) and he told me who to call/where to look it up. Since he was polite about it and provided guidance on where to check it for myself, I complied and left the area. Looked it up and, sure enough, there were regs on the lake preventing fishing around the commercial docks.

In your case it may be an owner throwing BS trying to get you away, or there very well may be something in place about commercial or fuel docks the general public doesn't know about. It ultimately comes down to enforcement; Game Wardens enforce it on Greer's Ferry right now at least.

Or you were tying up to or physically getting on one of the slips...Just passing by and pitching into the slips, no one will say a word. I have done it many times and never had a problem but I also respect the people who are paying the rent and don't get all up in their baited and brushed out slips.

See you on the lake and have a great day!

They said it was because people pay for the slips

I have been siting in a slip fixing a rod or changing a bait or something and had them ask me politely to move out of the slip. Sounded reasonable to me, someone else is paying to rent the space so I moved on. If you are going down the aisles and casting/pitching into the slips I do not think they will say a word. I could be wrong...

My understanding is that the controlling authority for the waterbody, usually USACOE, a river authority, or sometimes a city or county, has the ability to restrict fishing around commercial areas like a marina or dock. You really need to check with them to find out for certain. Same principle as restricting access or fishing around dams or water intake structures. As far as I know they have never restricted fishing on any lake around private docks, but they have for some commercial marinas.
