I think it tried to fit a niche that just isn't there. It couldn't compete with the ecodiesel for economy and couldn't compete with the heavy duty trucks for work. Had it been a 3/4 ton with more payload, I think it would have been more successful given the lower price tag compared to the big diesels.

Had it been in ANYTHING but a Nissan, I am willing to bet sales of the motor would have been astronomical.

Nissan needs to get out of the pickup truck market all together. The big 3 sold over 2.5 million trucks last year combined. Nissan sold less then 50k and the Frontier hasn't changed in almost 15 years.

They are fine trucks, they just compromised too much on the XD Diesels. Without deletes, they're not as full efficient as they should have been. They were heavy mofos but couldn't pull much more than the Ford F150 with the high end ecoBoost motor. There was no denying that torque of 555ft/lbs. I will say this, most of the owners of these guys really like 'em. Unfortunately, it just didn't translate to sales. I think it tried to fit a niche that just isn't there. I wonder if the sales had to do anything with the fact that those are about the uglies truck ever made?

I kind of like the looks of the XD Pro-4x. I requested a quote on one I all I got was "Stan the Man" sending me emails telling me to come in. I am not going to deal with some jerk off sales dude with a moniker. I never could get a price on one. The standard models are ugly with all their chrome. Why truck manufacturers think people from Texas like chrome is beyond me.

I drove one about a month ago for the hell of it. Awesome truck! Lots of power, nice ride. $70k.
Problem is, why spend that money on a Nissan when you can get a true 3/4 ton diesel from the big 3 for the same price or less?

Same could be said for every late model diesel and for whatever reason Cummins is dropping that motor from their lineup.

Same could be said for every late model diesel and for whatever reason Cummins is dropping that motor from their lineup. My dad has a Ram 3500 SRW 6.7 cummins. My FIL has a Titan XD 5.0 Cummins. The Ram is 2x the truck and gets better fuel mileage. All BS aside I think the Titan is a good looking and running truck, it has good get up and go. Ive ridden in it a lot and even driven it a considerable amount. The payload is what a 1/2 ton would be and the fuel mileage is less than the 3/4 ton + trucks with far less capacity or towing. Ive seen several of them used far beyond their ratings towing 5th wheels that well exceeded their payload and weight with seemingly no issues. The biggest hurt on them is the fuel mileage to me. All else aside my FIL's is a nice truck and he got a smoking deal on his 2017 with a 100k bumper to bumper warranty.

Bingo^ that is where Nissan flopped, Nissan isn’t a luxury car and forgot which sector of the market they service.. folks with 60-70k to spend on a pickup for dang sure aren’t buying Nissan.. Most of the xd produced was platinums.. who’s idea was that? Don’t get me wrong, I like the titans, had one years ago and It was a great truck but........ I’ll buy a 3/4 dodge all day everyday over xd.. 10k cheaper than the 3/4 and xd would have been a lot more popular, a in between truck class needs to be a in between price..
