I run into this a lot, posting photos and videos. "Oh hey! I'm from "x", what pond/creek/river/lake did you catch it in?". I don't want to be rude and tell them, "Sorry buddy. It's a secret", but I've worked hard to find all my fishing spots. Telling one person where it is will lead to them telling a person, and so on. Before you know it, your favorite fishing hole is way over pressured.
So, what's your go to response for these types?

Depends on how tight-lipped I need to be.
Saying "I caught it on Lake Texoma" doesn't do any harm in my view. But if its a small creek or such that cant take much fishing pressure, I might say "near Lake Texoma".

It depends on you whether or not to reveal the fishing spot. As far as I am concerned there is no wrong in revealing where I found it to an extent.

For me it always depended on who was asking where I caught them. Generally, if it is someone I know well and maybe they don't fish much, I try to help them and I tell them exactly where and how I caught them. But otherwise, I might tell a person "I caught them on the south end of Rayburn on top waters early and TR worms later in 8-12' water near grass or timber". Kind of a general idea....On a river I tell them "south end of river or up the river, on main or backwater....

This is what's wrong with the world today. Why not, share information. Maybe you can help someone who doesn't fish much catch their fish of a lifetime.I understand guides protecting their business, and others for the effort put into dropping brush piles and other debris into our lakes. But why not share. Most likely ..... the honey-hole that you have built or discovered has also been discovered by many others. I once found what I thought was an unknown drop-off on Ray Roberts. As I continued to fish I moved over to the other side of the cove, and watched boat after boat come in and probe the "secret" spot that I had just found. With today's electronics, not much is secret any more. Relax and enjoy fishing, instead of trying to hide something. Sorry, not meant to offend. It's early and I've only had one cup of coffee. I strictly catfish. I don't mind telling others where and how I caught them. The Tennessee River is a mecca for over sized blues and flatheads.

On the internet; far north part of Ray Roberts. Doesn't matter where I caught the bass, but that's where I catch all my fish.

All great responses. I am personally on the fence about it. Back in the day if I caught fish on a lake and people would ask, I always responded North of the dam.
Now, if someone asks and they are someone who seems to genuinely seem like they want to learn or just needs that extra chance to get on fish to build confidence, I don't mind throwing them a bone and provide "general" information. North end of a lake, deep/shallow, points, bait, etc.
Creeks and small ponds about the same. I get plenty of private messages here and I don't mind sharing, but I always add the disclaimer to not share publicly.

I tell them where I caught em, that doesn't mean they will still be there or they can even catch em. Time, bait, and presentation all come into play.If they knew how they wouldn't even ask.

^^^^^ True enough. In all seriousness, like mentioned above electronics now are phenomenal and if you need more help call Don Harper or someone comparable and get a hot spots chip for said electronics. I don't get to fish often, and don't want to waste my time scouting when my next chance to fish might be 4-5 months distant. Don's chips and scouting put me in an area with fish most of the time. Then you locate them in that small area and it's game on. I lead guys that need help in that direction and make them aware of the tools that are available.

The only time I dont say exactly where is within 2 weeks of a tournament I might be fishing in. Other than that I pretty much give you the way point, bait and color. I have even given people the actual bait before while on the water.

It depends who it is....most of the time I say "They are aquatic in nature, so I would say they are in the water"
