I know. When the story came out I remember thinking about posting a thread about a crane company denying culpability for the death and destruction caused by their equipment but realized that wasn't really news but an expected legal proclamation. I should have posted a thread. It would have been epic.

Is there any reason why the Boom can't be lowered while not being operated? Assuming that no one was working at the time of the collapse.

at the risk of
being ridiculed

this was a tower crane
rated for 95 MPH wind rating
the winds were 71 MPH
they did not
unlock the boom
to face into the wind

you cannot
lower the boom on these

I worked with a dude once that use to operate tower cranes. He said that the higher they went the more that they were paid.
