For you guys that have gone to all braid, are you suing fluoro or mono leaders? if you are, do you have problems with the connection knot sticking in guides? I tried going all braid and couldn't stand all the hang ups with the connection knot. Thanks

I use all of the above. Straight braid on some applications and either mono or fluoro leaders. It takes a little getting used to on the knot in the guides. (Make sure you trim the tags end short) I wouldn't use a leader with micro-guides. I use a uni-uni knot and it usually fairly low profile once you get used to tying it. I use a longer leader and it seems to help as the momentum of the cast to pull the knot through the guides. Plus, you can re-tie multiple times without redoing the leader.

Using 14lb flouro tied to braid using the nail knot tied with a Tie Fast tool, no problem casting weightless plastic like flukes. I start with 6-8' leader that gets shorter as I retie.

Most of my line that is braid...I use a #10 swivel to tie on a leader for drop shot or other baits that spin.

When I'm going to add straight leader like t-rig, I use braid to flouro using a alberto knot. When I do this...I only reel to where the knot is just before the rod tip and cast. I've found that if I reel too far on my micro guide rods...they don't like the knot passing through. On standard guides, this is not so much the case.

As the progenitor of the Fluoro thread, I used to use a Fluoro leader tied with an FG knot (then used a San Diego Jam to tie the leader to the bait) when using braid to leader. I'm not by any stretch a tournament fishermen nor an expert, just a recreational angler that has come to believe in simplifying any weak point in my system and as of now don't really notice any difference from when I used to use a leader on braid vs straight braid. That being said, the FG knot is a sweet knot and slips through the guides no problem (and looks really nice when you tie it to boot).

FG knot is the only way to go! you can fish for weeks without having to retie! 20lb braid to 14lb flouro is the best!

Only do braid to fluro in salt. Not sure why people have issues with fluro. I love it but when I use it as a leader I use the reverse Albright. Never failed me.

When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip!

FG knot is ridiculous. 7+ minutes to tie a knot? Ill pass. Never had the uni-uni knot fail me as a leader knot. I only use a leader on spinning applications. Sometimes Ill use a 2-3 foot mono leader for topwater which never touches the guides.

If you can't find em wind em.

idk how it is taking you 7mins to tie a knot, but I can say doing 14 wraps and finishing the knot takes about 2mins tops...

I use the Alberto knot. A dab of super glue helps to slick it off. I use this with micro guides and havent had any issues.

Good luck tying it on the deck of a boat holding a trolling motor on a spot..... no way...... that knot is a beating.

I use alberto. Can tie it easily probably while driving my truck down the road by my knee..

That said some guides are just plain no good for a knot to pass thru... especially with a bait caster as you apply quite a bit more force. The slightest hang up can break you off at the knot.

I also use all of the options from the OP.. braid to flouro and braid to mono.. I like the Alberto knot.. its been good for me. I use 6 wraps in both directions and that is usually a pretty small knot. I have down sized to 15lb Daiwa 8 strand fiber to 10lb Invisix flouro. Low Viz green original Stren is my mono of choice.. 12lb and I use that on C Rig.

Agree here but I like 7 wraps for luck cheers

If you tie and cinch it right the knot is small and simple to tie and strong enough to not have to try and mess with the FG knot.
