I'm considering upgrading to Gen 2. Has anyone here done it, and if so what are your thoughts?

I run em both networked together using the gen 2 transducer. If you fish deeper water the gen 2 would help some due to the extended range of the mega +. The gen 2 comes with the low Q dual spectrum 2d built in the stock transducers. Not much difference between the two

That's what I have now except both are Gen 1. What I was really hoping for was better SI range. Is the range improved much?

yes, I can scan out to 120' with good clarity unlike the gen 1 where anything over 80' was somewhat unusable for me

I'm with you on the Gen1 only good to about 80 feet. It's a tough call. I'm getting ready to rewire my boat and would be a good time to swap out ducer's.

I have both the Solix Gen1 12 and the Gen2 12 side by side on my Ranger. I will tell you that it is for sure a noticeable difference in screen quality of the image. They are networked together and the display on the Gen 2 is like HD to compared to the Gen 1. I personally have been running in the 455 freq here recently reaching out to 110’, I also have a -40’ split screen difference.

Thanks for the feed back. I went ahead and have a Gen 1 and Gen 2 networked. I haven't been on the water yet.

Are you just using the Gen 2 transducer? It was my understanding that the Gen 1 when networked and current software update the Gen 1 would display as clear as Gen 2 when sharing Gen 2 transducer??

Guess I'll soon find out...

The first generation will display what is processed by the G2. The transducer is not shared, just the data from the unit it is connected to. You select the G2 as the source for each of the sonar technologies. You can do the same with Temp and GPS.
