Just finished wiring up some new lights. I soldered all connections, siliconed, heat shrink, then used larger heatshrink to further waterproof.

I used a push button near the hatch to turn everything on/off and a switch panel for the front/rear/cockpit.

Can't wait to try it out night fishing!!!

I'll post my kayak trailer with pull out kitchen and roof top tent when it's 100% done. It's on a 3500lb axle with spring over and 31" tires (33"s were way too big).

Looking to add more light to the cockpit without blinding myself. Any good diffused LED strips?

That looks really nice.
Fish finder and head lamp give me all the light I need in my yak.

Great job, looking to place a 2 nautical mile light on my yak and some blue inside lights both on water sealed switches.

Just note if you're out at night, the red and green lights at the bow may give other boaters the impression that you're a powered vessel, and their placement low to the water may confuse other boaters.

Thats a great point. I like the install pics, though.

I would steer clear of these switches. I installed them on 2 kayaks and both sets of switches don't work after getting a handful of drops of water on them. These are really bad switches.

Now that those lights are installed, you might as well add a trolling motor. laugh

On switches, these are what I bought, but they sell a few different options if you don't need 8 switches:

I hate to be that guy, but the USCG Regs are VERY specific about lighting, and what you can and ...shouldn't do.
See here: USCG on LED Lights
And here:USCG Navigation Rules. (Part C, Rule 25 "Under Oars" Applies to peddle-driven vessels, too)

For those who don't want to dig thru all of that:
For paddled/peddled boats, only a white stern light (which may be handheld) is required, which should be visible out to 2 miles.
Powered boats require a white, 360 deg visible, stern light (2 miles) + red/green bow lights, with specific angles of visibility and distance are required. Lights should be labeled "USCG Approved" or meet all requirements for Approval.. Powered, to the USCG, means any mechanical/electrical non-human power source. I.E. battery or combustion power sources.

What you have installed for nav lights doesn't meet the requirements. They aren't required for your kayak, and if used would possibly result in a citation for unapproved lighting, regardless.

I did a BUNCH of research on lighting, once I decided I wanted to light my kayak, and ended up with just a Scotty stern light. and a head lamp for cockpit illumination. I do plan on swapping out the scotty lamp for something brighter, as I think it might be short on the 2 mile visibility.

Blue LED's in the cockpit will save your night vision.
