Im about to put my 2015 Hobie PA up for sale and wanted some feedback from you guys. The kayak is in great condition with the only mod being the Hbar added to it. I have been thinking the a range between 2250-2500 with the new 360 coming out. My location is in Lubbock which is far from the larger kayak buying markets but Im not sure how much that hurts the price. I also have a converted full size tire trailer that I could move along with it. Any ideas on pricing or best ways to sell would be appreciated.

It's worth what someone will pay for it. Set a price that's a bit higher than you think it is worth and list it on Facebook Marketplace, craigslist, etc. If it has not sold in a month or two, reduce the price until it does sell. Tell a potential buyer that the first person with cash gets it, don't tell someone you'll hold it for them.

If it�s a PA12 with the regular non 180 drive, be prepared to wait a while pricing it without the trailer north of 2K

For 2K it would be worth telling someone from those populated areas you'll meet them halfway!

This cuts both ways. Yes, you will have fewer buyers....However, you will also have fewer sellers (competition).

You only need one buyer to sell your yak. If your market has only one buyer that is looking for used PA, you may very well have him or her all to yourself. If you are both fair and reasonable, you will make a deal. If your market has two buyer's, then you have a bit of leverage to stick closer to your asking price.

This example is an over simplification, but you get the point.

Depends on how fast you need to sell it. Being in Lubbock to me that means you should be willing to drive an hour or so to meet someone. If the price is a good price most people don't mind driving a little. About a year ago I took off work and drove 4 hours round trip to buy my 2016 PA14. It was a rare situation where it was 2 years old but had never been in the water. Came with some accessories including the h-bar. Paid $2K for it and I jumped on it. However the used kayak market has dropped a lot in the past year due to newer cheaper kayaks coming out and the ability to finance kayaks. I saw the other day there's a kayak shop offering zero percent financing on Hobie's including any and all accessories.

I think $2500 might be a stretch. If you want to sell it fast set the price at $2K firm and don't move it. The issue with setting the price high then lowering it what lots of folks that buy used kayaks do when they see a new ad come out is wait. Wait for it to start dropping. Then wait some more to see how far it drops. Timing may be an issue since we are about a month away from lots of fisherman switching gears to hunting so your market will narrow down a lot in September.

As far as the best place if I were to post on CL I wouldn't post anything without a firm price. If not you'll get flooded with low ball offers. To me it's just not worth the hassle. Your local forum is a good place to start. I hear something called Facetwit can also be good.

I've bought and sold several kayaks, and you will get plenty of low ball offers right up until the time they show up at your door, after you've already explained over the phone that your price is firm, you will hear a lot of crying about how far they had to drive etc. etc. etc.
It's just something you will have to deal with, so give yourself some cushion when you set the price.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I am realistic about pricing and can see the market has changed. I'm going to make a clean post and list everything in detail to make it easier for buyers to decide.

I don't live in your market, but wanted to comment on the introduction of the new 360 drive. While it will be a nice add on remember that the price went up about a grand for that equipped boat. I'm not sure how much that will effect the price of used boats based on their original price. A $2000 used Hobie with some accessories vs a new $5000 bare boat is quite a bit of a difference for many.

Note: I'm pedaling a 2019 Hobie PA 14.

I was in agreement with this reasoning until 5 minutes ago. I just read that Hobie will have two 2020 PA models... A 180 drive at the current price and a 360 drive at $4,700.

It stands to reason that Hobie will phase out the 180 sooner or later... But at the moment it appears that the 180 will hang on for at least one more year.

On a side note, I also read that Hobie does not have immediate plans to introduce the 360 in other colors.
