I have a Skeeter TZX170 and in the end of last lake visit me steering started sleeping and making a strange noises in rack area.

How difficult and expensive is replace it? I figured out that it is "mechanical rack&pinion single cable steering system". Can I replace just rack without cable replacement or full replacement required?

Also, I was told that it may require to take outboard out if there is not enough space to take old cable out (and put new one in).

Any help is appreciated

How old is the cable? I would start there. I had my Ranger for 30 years and replaced several cables but helm was original. Not a bad job depending on clearance at the motor. Some don't have enough room. If you have a jackplate it makes it easier.
