Had so much fun. The blue gill hit hard, but we let all go to fight another day. And it's flat out nice to kick back and enjoy the sights and lack of sound. Only birds chirpin and the occasional bull frog. I upgraded to a 5lb anchor and still got blown around like a top. This was a small tank we fished, knowing the wind would kick up. I'll look into those push pole thingys I've seen y'all talk about. Been a great day.

Sounds like a great day! I bet you would like crappie fishing this fall (when the crappie move back to shallow water). A bucket of minnows, bobber and a little bit of shallow structure is all you need for a great dinner

I hate carrying it, but when I know I'm going to anchor, I take a 10 lb mushroom anchor. Only need enough anchor line to reach bottom plus 4 feet for big boat wake.

I have a 10lb mushroom anchor also. might scoot a bit in the mud before it catches but keeps me in place.

Put a big hook in that fish and throw it back out there... and hang on.

For anchor fishing I like the slip ring style boat anchors. They take up more room and you have to be careful about making too much noise with them but they work. I've had times where a bruce claw wouldn't hold like silty or hard mud bottoms. To me these seem to dig in a little better. Here's one that's about 5 lbs. https://www.amazon.com/Dutton-Lains...=1564401697&s=automotive&sr=1-12

I love to just get out in the kayak and paddle around, and maybe even anchor, even if I can barely catch enough to stink up the pan, I'm charged up enough for it to last me a few days. I use a Bruce's claw anchor, and it holds pretty good on a soft bottom. For a rocky hard bottom the mushroom as mentioned above will hold you, and if you have trouble with any anchor holding, you might have to try letting out more line.

I personally fish in areas with too many rocks or tree root or just structure in general. Lost too many anchors that got hung up so I just resorted to the mushroom anchor.

I was having the same problem in a particular area I fished that had rocks and brush and I'd lose an anchor now and then, and I finally gave up and went down to Academy and bought a five pound dumbbell weight from the workout dept. I guess it's the shape, but it works and it's a little cheaper than that mushroom.
