I heard he was running at night and didn't see/know the island was there. No major injuries but the boat was supposedly totaled.

Why do you run an area that you don't know at night? I never run anywhere at night that I haven't run during the day. I make sure my GPS trails don't come within a few yards of anything I might hit at night. That means running in the middle a lot of the time, then idling to docks, the bank, timber, etc.

Glad to here there were no serious injuries. People do make mistakes, but speed usually compounds them. If it was at night as suggested, going fast is just crazy.

Maybe he is testing out his shallow water anchors. Looks like they are holding quite well!

Come on guys. Who hasn't done that 2 or 3 times Does the fact that you say you have done that 2-3 times have anything to do with your name? Were you reaching for the Cheetos?
See you on the lake and have a great day!

your depth perception can be off at night....almost hit a small island like this years ago and I could have sworn I was 200 yards further out in the lake than I was...

Its my dads boat, his friend was driving and got it on plane with out the graph booted up yet and hit the island at night. Completely dumb but good people make mistakes sometimes. Luckily no one was hurt badly, he got a few stitches in his forehead and the driver got a few bruises. The boat on the other hand is a tank, when I heard about it I thought for sure total loss. I went and assessed the damage after it was put on the trailer yesterday and was amazed. Steering wheel is bent from impact, rub rail on front left is ripped out, and fell coat is damaged on the front left. No gouges or stress cracks on the hull at all, no ding in the prop, no wobble in the prop shaft, no cracks in transom, tilt and trim works fine and power poles as well. Hell the batteries were still sitting in their trays, truly amazing. Its going to Randy Qualls to be checked out completely so will know more then, but everyone was truly lucky could have been much worse.
