Hi yall
So I grew up in Grand Prairie left for Northern California when I was 19 yo lived there for 25 years I fished the tournament circuit out there for 20 plus years I lived 5 min from the famous California delta spent tons of hours on Clear lake , etc.... well I moved back to grand prairie 3 months ago I bought a little 17' skeeter and plan on fishing mnt creek and Joe pool . Our lakes are deep and clear , our rivers the delta are tidal rivers . Texas lakes are shallow AMD dingy to muddy . Our bass spawn first full moon in March I have no idea when yalls spawn. Are there any lakes you can sight fish ? I'm strictly catch and release got a great rep in nor cal . Any help would be great appreciated.

Thanks yall in advance

I believe Mnt Creek is still lacking access for bass boats. As for sight fishing you will have to go west most likely to get to clearer waters, Possum Kingdom is the closest I can think of off the top of my head. I dont fish that far west but have been out there a time or 2.

I absolutely love it !! When your on clear lake and you pull in a cove and see 5 toads on beds and they are locked I'm putting em in the boat 9 out of 10 times. Next to friggin the Delta it's my favorite way to fish. Alot of controversy over it over the past few years but a fish 8lbs or bigger as definitely donated to the gene pool plus ice never had a bed fish die on me wiegh em and release to fight another day. Now we do have what we call meat hunters that will walk the bank and slaughter em for food. My take on that , as much as I dislike it if that man paid for his license and is fishing within the law then it's his right . Who am I to judge. If I see em I try to educate em keep the 2-4lbders let the mamas go . But in the end it's his choice

So no slabs with trebles or jigging spoons with trebles? roflmao I dont think you get my drift.

You can sight fish Joe Pool in late feb, early March. Watch for water temps to get to 60 a couple days in a row around the first full moon. Go to the backs of coves on pool and wear em out.

domb1972, originally from that area and fished probably the same places you did. Loved fishing the delta in particular. As far as sight fishing goes, it really depends on the amount of rain we get and if it is flooded in my opinion. In the 5 years I have lived here, I have only seen a handful of fish on beds. But I am fishing mostly lakes on the west and north sides of DFW.

Tournament on Pool is Wed. night. Just watch where the boats are running. Been catching most of mine in 15-25 FOW around structure or main points. Hasn't been great but catching fish. Couple of weeks ago caught some around timber in 5-8 FOW but that's been dry last few times. Drop shot, Niko seem to work well for me. I will say every time I think I have Pool figured out I don't. Lake changes all the time.

Watermelon red flake works just fine here--some people that's all they throw, even in chocolate milk.

I wouldn't throw away your clear water colored baits. There are several lakes with good water visibility close to where you live.

Used to throw a lot of brush and baby brush hogs and they did fine. Watermellon/red flakes or black/blue flakes both work for my Niko. I just try and throw different than others most days as that lake gets fished so hard I like to show them something new.

Pool is a different animal for me. Once you get it figured out and are consistent, the next year it all changes it seems. You might also want to try Grapevine. I seem to do better on it than Pool most of the time and it can be easier to fish on windy days, quite often. 98% of my fishing is done at Pool and Grapevine. The other 2% is Fork.
