Saturday I was fishing on Lewisville and had a good morning going. Plan was to hit rocks and some brush piles. Around noon I was working toward the last stop I wanted to hit. It was a point that I had place 2 separate brush piles on. On the side of the point are two trees I sunk 4 years ago and on the tip about a 100 yards away are 3 Christmas trees I sank in January. As I approach, I see a boat set up on the point. No problem there in that I actually wanted to hit the older pile since I had worked that Christmas trees on Thursday. The guy fishing was with his young son and I hoped they where doing good.
As I was trolling motor up to the spot I wanted to fish, this guy starts giving me the stink eye. Never says a word, just glares. I just go about my business and start to fish the other spot. Within a few minutes, I think I catch a fish or two and then all of a sudden I hear his big motor crank up. This guy proceeds to then do a U turn and dance all over the brush pile he is on at full throttle and take off with his back to me. I am sitting there going what a moron.
If the guy had said anything to me, I would have shared any spot I know of to help him and his son have a good day on the water. Within a mile, there are 17 piles that I know of (I placed 10 of them). I don't care who finds them and fishes them as long as they don't publish a list. Fishing is my passion and I respect those that also feel the same. Nobody owns a "Spot". My only question is was I an @55 for being that close on an open lake? This is a long submerged point about 300 yards from shore. Lord knows the wake board boats and jet fleas have no problem coming closer than that when I am fishing.
Wrapped up my morning with 21 fish. Nothing shorter than 11" and big fish was 13". Green and white jigs on an orange 1/8oz head with a willow leaf was the best ticket for me.

Some people never understand and I feel sorry for his young son as what a crummy example his Dad his setting for him. Glad you did what you did, and that you caught fish. Also happy that you did not let it spoil your day. I would be on the Mad side no reason to be embarrassed. Then it really does no good to get mad these days, never know any more what idiot may have a gun.

My boat looks like a guides boat so I often have folks move in pretty close to me, especially in the winter time. The problem is that they can be 20' away and not catch a fish while I am catching one after another. Most of the time I get to feeling guilty and just let them have the spot as I have plenty of others to go to. I love the expresion on a fellows face when you wave him over and put him on fish.

Buff2. I've gotten to know several Guides over the years. They will know your "spots" and everybody else's. I have found that by befriending them, they will turn you on to fish and spots you never knew where there. Occasionally, they will also tell you how productive your spot was a week ago .LOL. Almost all are very decent guys making a living. I have gained quite a bit more out of knowing them than I ever showed them.

You did good HV....I shrug a lot of things off on the water now a days...you never know what is going on in the other persons head or life...I was a hot head at one point...too much to lose now and like Brazos River Tom said someone might pull a gun...... thumb.....nice catching HV!!! Can't wait to get back out there when I'm done with all this work..... Lewisville has been very good to me lately.

On a more positive note I wanted a friends son to catch his first fish. We were struggling to even get a bite. A fellow fisherman near us (on a bridge) told us he was on a brush pile with a few fish. He gave us the color jig they were biting and as bonus a small Shad he had picked up off the surface as a sweetener. It was on, the young man caught a very nice 13 crappie on his brand new rod + reel. I run into to many like this but rarely anyone like you experienced .

I wouldn't be mad or embarrassed by his actions. I would just call him a freaking idiot and my friends and I would just make fun of him and laugh about it while continuing to fish.

Good on you for not escalating. The bad thing is one day that guy is going to act like that with the wrong people and put his kid in a bad situation.

It's only a good cast if you catch a fish...

I find that if you're approaching, a "hi, how's it going".... or "there are 2 brush piles here, do you mind if I fish the other?" helps. Then give them a nugget of information to help them. People come from different bodies of water and have differing standards on what constitute invasion.

On one lake, 15ft is ok between boats, but on another 150yd is too close.

One 10-pounder is better than ten 1-pounders; but 100 1-pounders is ok too!

Good point Skunked. I know that I'm there to relax. I do not like to get worked up in the process. I should have lightened it up when I felt the bad vibe coming from him.
If I can wave at a wake boat with all 5 fingers and not just one, I should be able to deal with another crappie fisherman no matter his mode.
