I was having some performance issues with the 2012 Merc. Pro XS. Poor hole shot and in general the motor was dogging. I just found out my air compressor went out. Only 200 hours on the motor and a $940 part went bad. In total repair job will be about $1,500. I presonally know two other friends that recently have had similar problems on low hour motors.

Is this a "known issue" with Pro XS motors that Mercury is just sweeping under the rug to save money? Who else has had seemingly early failure of the air compressor on a Pro XS motor?

It's a known issue and yes Mercury is proud of them. My 06 225 pro xs went out in after a year and a 1/2 . You're lucky it didn't put anything into your cylinders I've known guys that had to have a new powerhead.

Seems they had a large batch of lesser quality made a few years back, supposedly the new ones are better.

There's more than just replacing the compressor when one fails to repair per Mercury recommendations.

I know there more to do than just swapping out a part. Mechanic doing it said something about checking and cleaning out "fuel rails" and other stuff I don't really understand. As long as he does. lol

All done. New air compressor, cleaned fuel rails and fuel injectors. Since it was in (and it was time), had new impeller installed, new spark plugs and lower unit oil change. Total $1,680.12.

Common issue. The later style compressors are a little better. Good design for fuel economy but... it happens.

This implies you think the guy that already did the work did not do it correctly and you want to check his work. Am I missing something?
