Well...Tried Decker for the 1st time today...lets just call it the anti-slab adventure. Water temp was 89 at the intake area & 94 at the discharge area & everywhere in between in other areas. Tried several different areas of the lake and ended up with around 30 sunfish (mostly red ear) , one small catfish & one crappie. The majority of the sunnies were 3-5 inches, but did manage a few decent ones. The biggest one came from the dam area. Wind was pretty stiff out of the south most of the day but manageable. Did lose one big red ear by the "ramp to nowhere". Used drop shot & both night crawlers & red wrigglers. The slabs on Fayette will have had a full 2 week vacation by the time I get back there next Monday! [Linked Image]

Nice post and fish Steve. Not bad fishing a water body for the first time. Seems by the past couple of post that the BIG ONES have completed their spawn and have moved. I figure the big ones are laying under the Hydrilla in a little deeper water! thumb

Fred...When You start your new post (after you write your text) click in the "upload inline image" icon...it's the one just left of the "insert media tag" icon on the tool bar. Then browse to find your picture in your computer wherever you have it saved. Next, click on the picture (I believe you actually double click) then click "add file from your PC". when you have all the photos you want loaded click the "all done" button & they will be at the end of your post.. My friend Jose fished Decker with me on Saturday with similar results. The bite has definitely cooled off from what it was two weeks ago. We did manage 3 or 4 that were almost 10". Still a lot of fun and a great way to save the day when the hybrids or largemouth have lockjaw.

Still meaning to get over to Fayette and get after some of Vogey's fish!

Nice post. I just re-built an old family flat bottom boat and have been taking it a few times to Lake Placid in Seguin since it is so close to my home. I'd like to make a trip up to Decker and was wondering how it is affected by the wind. My boat is a 16 foot flat bottom with a 25 horse motor. A 15 mph wind just before white caps start is generally the max I'm "comfortable" with in a boat like that. Is Decker sheltered a little or is it bad about catching wind?

txred...Decker really isn't sheltered much. The dam is not very high, so doesn't serve as a very good wind break. There are coves that have some pretty good protection, but getting to & from could be an issue if the wind is much over 10 mph.

Thanks Vogey. That's the info I needed. I'll stick to learning my little local lake Placid for the time being.
