I have a Terrova but wondering what trolling motor y�all are using for a splasher prop on a pontoon boat. I�m thinking a older 55 lb. thrust would be fine? The one time I�ve seen one in person in use was on a center console guide boat and his went at about a 45 degree angle onto the top of the water. I�m running a 36 volt system. Thank you in advance, I�m thinking this may need some fabrication work to make it work on my boat.

I personally use a 30 pound Minnkota Endura. Costs under $100 new. I built a prop for mine but I'm betting the regular prop just half submerged will be the trick and not take any effort.

Academy sells small bow mount trolling motors for $99.00. That�s what I have used for 2 years. I would personally get some type of splasher prop, if you don�t keep the trolling motor partially submerged it will over heat the motor.

The biggest problem with the splasher system is that the prop turns too fast at the lowest setting of the trolling motor. You have to purchase a special electrical board and wire it to the input of the trolling motor to reduce the low voltage that will allow the motor to turn slowly under control. There is a lot more to it than getting a new prop.

Well, that just went over my head. Have to ask a friend that hopefully understands that. Thank you for the input.

Check craigslist for a used trolling motor. I bought one for $25 and another for $40. Ask me y I needed the second one.

What he's trying to say is you need a rheostat to vary the speed(voltage available) to the motor, google search "speed controls". Be sure to get voltage to match your needs, at least 20 amp or bigger controls, or it will fry the circuits. Some of the 3 speed or 5 speed fixed type controls do not go slow enough. The problem can be easily solved by buying a trolling motor with a twist grip variable speed control(built in rheostat from factory) Lots of the old style trolling motors were built that way, I had an older riptide 80 lb thrust motor with twist grip like that, infinite variable speed. I have had some customers tell me the reverse speeds on the fixed position controls are slower that fwd speed positions, Belton Bill, try flipping splasher prop over and try reverse speed settings, please post up if it works and which motor, for all the lurkers who read on here but don't post.

You know I was wondering about putting a splasher in the front and the back. The old two must be better than one type of thinking lol.

Not sure if I agree it turns too fast...I have been using my 30 pound thrust trolling motor on speed 1 for several months and have zero issues and notice a big difference with it attracting fish. Not sure if you really need to do all that. Try is out of the box first.

Ok another question. Does it make any difference if it�s put on top of the water at an angle or lowered straight down to the water? Does one way splash more effectively than the other? At an angle and I�ll have to have a bow mount fabricated and straight down I can buy an 80.00 pontoon bow mount that�ll work.

I use mine with the shaft vertical, and the waterline at the prop shaft or just above. Don�t over think this setup, I use a basic MK transom mount 35lb motor and have for years. It has twist grip handle and I use either speed 1 or 2. With this motor it has the ability to be used at a 45 degree if you wanted to. Honestly, some days I feel like this helps attract fish, some days it scares them off, and some days it makes no difference. Most days I find myself wanting peace and quiet so I leave it off.

Had a Pontoon come in to potlick�....He turns on his splasher and begin dropping slabs. He edges closer and closer.

All of my Shad rods slam down....4 nice Fish to 7 pounds. I said "Hey Man! Thanks!"
