What a nice morning to be fishing with one of my repeat customers Kevin. We got a bit of a late start but the boat traffic, weather and bite were really good. First brush pile we hit in 22ft of water yielded 11 keeper crappie. We made a short move and stopped on a double brush pile in 24 ft and left that pile with 20 keepers. 2 hours and 20 fish in the Livewell. Thought we were on cruise control and we would knock out his other 5 fish in a few minutes on the next stop. Was I ever wrong. We pulled up on the next brush pile and I needed to pee. But all the sudden we had boats, kayaks, paddles boards and just tons of traffic around us. Every time a boat would start to leave another would take its place this just kept happening over and over. This area has been a great area and has several of my brush piles close together. It even produced a 2 plus lbs fish on Thursday for a customer. I really wanted to get the biggest 5 fish possible for my customer and this is normal my go to spot. I started noticing a pattern to the boats and then I noticed something was on the bank. Few more boats later and I started noticing all the boats as they pulled up so close to us were using binoculars as well and scanning the banks. I noticed a green flag and pile of sand with something in the sand on the shore. So I ask the next boat and they informed me the marinas were putting on a scavenger hunt on the lake. Thats was just great to find out they put that so close to my brush piles. Then to make it every better boats started racing up to us as we caught a fish and asking to take a picture of us with our fish. Apparently this was also one the things they needed for the hunt as well. I was about to loose my mind as this point. These boats were not fishing boats. These were the big slip boats. Most were 26ft cruisers and longer. We finally got those last 5 fish and I ask Kevin if it was ok if we just left the lake and let them have it. What a beating. One dad said the marines did this so that kids would spend time on the lake with the parents. Seems like a nice thought but does he realize the marinas sell him fuel as well?? Kevin ended up having a great morning of fishing and left with his limit of crappie. I have a few spots open next week and it should be scavenger hunt free to fish for crappie on Lewisville, Grapevine or Ray Roberts. Go to www.ntxfishing.net or contact me at 972-342-8803 to book a trip.
