Isn't golden algae more of a cold water problem?

Is it coming down from the Brazos, evidently there are bunches of dead stripers below dam at granbury. They are blaming low oxygen from the dam not releasing any.

Golden alga is more common in the colder months but can occur anytime of the year. TPWD does not indicate a golden alga bloom at Lake Whitney on their website but it could still be golden alga. Hopefully it was just an oxygen depletion in a cove. Where was the kill? And that is a nice striper.

Its happening below Granbury and washing them down river. Been a few of these on different lakes this year when they shut off the dam releases.
I hate photobucket.

Months of high release rates and current oxygenating the water, then the gates close, water temp goes up 10-20 degrees and dissolved oxygen levels plummet suffocating the fish.

GA lives in the river year around. Cooler temps and low water flow from drought conditions usually lead to the fatal bloom. I would be very surprised if GA could bloom to high levels with all the water that moved through the Brazos this year.
