 Brake Caliper Just Sheared Off!

So Im heading to my local lake on Saturday and notice that my trailer (Marine Master) brakes were applied, and released just a quickly while I was driving. I didn't think much of it, until I went to put the boat back on the trailer, and noticed that the same tire was now locked up and would not turn. I got out to check it and noticed the whole caliper sheared off the axle and is just laying on the rim. I remove the tire and the caliper falls to the ground. I managed to get her to the shop, at which point the tech tells me that this is the third one this month!

Did the caliper mount bolts shear, back out or was it caliper mount point on the axle that broke off?

Seems like a problem on many trailer's. The bolt that holds the caliper in place will loosen. Its a maintenance item that needs to be checked every 6 months or so. I know Nitro uses loc tite on that bolt.

I think most if not all call for LocTight.

Wont the lock tight melt from the heat of the brakes ? If you're really worried about it, Loctite does make a High Temp formula as well. Works till around 450-500 or something like that.

I think most if not all call for LocTight. I am planning ahead in case I cannot get the set screws out of mine. I have been looking at parts and noticed that some caliber bolts come with re Loc Tite. I hope you never have to remove them. Also the DB42 calibers only have one bolt.
