James and I took advantage of the cool weather today and fished from daylight until 1:30. Fishing was great. We had 41 over 11" and threw back 15 or so other legal fish. Only caught 3 below 10". So nice to be cool again.

Most of the fish today came on minnows. Live or dead didn't matter. Caught several big ones on half minnows. Brushpiles and submerged timber within 1/2 mile of ramp.

I have never fished for crappie with dead minnows. I learn something everyday.

You can take minnows, cut them in half or three pieces and freeze in small batches in plastic bags. Take them out in the morning and throw the bag in the livewell. They'll be thawed and ready to use by the time you get to the lake.

Was out Saturday morning with a friend and caught some quality fish and then on Sunday I took my SIL and we hammered them in just a few hours while we were there. All fish caught on jigs and the best bite was on the BoneHead minnows cut in half. It is nice to see the Lew producing quality fish.

Wed. did not take minnows. Only caught 10 keeper fish in 4 hours.

Thurs. Took live minnows, caught 45 legal with 38 over 11". Almost all on minnows.

If you fish minnows right now be prepared to catch a lot of small channel catfish as well as crappie. (and a few big ones too)

I hate messing with minnows but if you want quantity of fish you need to bring some.
