Just bought a new boat and am new to both Lowrance (HDS 9 Carbon) and Minn Kota (Ultrex 112). My console graph works great with the supplied DS and SS transducer, but my bow graph is very grainy and I cant seem to figure out why. Ive already taken it back to the dealer for that and normal items. My question is, in the graph transducer selection what transducer do in need to select for the Ultrex or do I simply leave it as Unknown? Ive been to multiple sights and YouTube and have found no help.

If the HDS on the bow is linked to the HDS on the console you should be able to select the DS and SS transducer that the console unit is using. I believe the built in transducer on the MK is 2D....don't have an Ultrex so not sure.

My graphs are not connected and you are correct it is 2D only.

I'd call both MinnKota & Lowrance and discuss the list of menu transducers available for selection on your Lowrance unit. See what they suggest.

You might have to go with an external Lowrance transducer on your Ultrex for best display.

Are you using this adapter cable to connect your Lowrance to your Ultrex?

Did some more research. You may want to try this and see if your display clears up.

1. Select "shallow water" use first.

2. Select Generic 83/200 transducer.

Im no expert but I havent been able to figure why you would want to use the very limited transducer in the Ultrex. I have the Ultrex and a Lowrance Hook2 7 and cant understand under what circumstance I would want to use the Ultrex feed - especially given most graphs today can provide split screens if you want to watch the chart and the sonar and/or down imaging. Would love to hear from someone who uses the Ultrex image and how it helps in their application. Not criticizing just wanting to learn more.

Until the new motors get on the market, Motor Guide only has a 2D 83/200 kHz transducer built-in also.

Lots of fishermen only want or use 2D sonar when at the bow whether or not any imaging capability is available external or internal to the motor. 2D transducers on trolling motors has been done for about 50 years.

Got it - was unaware of how long transducers have been included with the TM. Thanks.

Not that long inside a trolling motor, just used on/in a trolling motor.

Suggest you try Resetting the Sonar Defaults on front unit. To do this press "PAGES - SETTINGS - SONAR - then in the middle of the screen scroll down to RESET SONAR DEFAULTS - YES"
I will send you a PM to call me if you like.
Rob

Thanks for all the replies, I think my issue may have been the networking and multi-source being turned on at the dealer. Wont know for sure until this Saturday. Already looking at purchasing the 3 in 1 transducer if this doesnt work as hoped. I just hate to not take advantage of the Ultrex transducer, I really just want a clear sonar image on the bow.

As someone that fishes and works/repairs trolling motors (ASC), I see no reason to put a SI transducer on the trolling motor. With the trolling motor constantly turning, the image is constantaly changing, and usually turning to fast to make a clear "scan" type picture. I have installed DI on the trollingmotor for those that want to see the DI image also, however, since I'm 65 years old and have been using 2D (83/200) for years on the trolling motor, I'm content with seeing the 2D image. It's better than the older flasher I use to run, however, the flasher would give me "right now" information, while the DI or 2D gives history unless you're content on reading what comes out of the right side as soon as it shows up. Many depth finders have a bar on the side that shows what a flasher would be seeing, then carries history throughout the screen.

Also if you only have 2 fish finders you may want to invest in an ethernet cable and link the 2 together. Cheap investment and you can toggle back and forth from the read Di/si images and the u universal 2d. Simple to install, plug one end into each unit. Makes it easy to mark structure and it automatically appears on the other unit also.

Thanks all, that was a wealth of info, while image improved slightly after adjusting the settings it still lacks the clarity of my dash unit. Will likely just buy a Lowrance transducer for the trolling motor.
