For those of you who keep your boat in a shop or storage building (on your own property), do you remove your Lowrance or HB electronics while your boat is in your storage or shop building (for any length of time between fishing trips) or do you just leave them on your boat? Does the heat damage the Lowrance or HB electronics?

Ive got over a 1000 hours on my Garmin and HB's, I fished at 110* and down to the upper 20's, and my boat is stored oufside
in a rental storage, graphs never removed. Works fine last long time. fish

Thank you for your comments! I keep mine in my shop on the boat year 'round but I am having some issues with one of my units and wasn't sure if it could be the result of being kept on the boat in my shop during the summer.

My building is insulated, so it doesn't get as hot or cold as the outside ambient temp. Also has an Hvac system, but only used if I'm there. So no problems here..

Many years ago i had a Lowrance depth finder go bad under warranty and sent it in for repairs. They honored it but sent a letter stating not to store it on my boat with a dark cover in the Texas sun as it was heat damage. Little did they know it was stored in an insulated, vented shop. It failed on a 105* day on the lake, not much you can do about the hot summers here. Mine stay on the boat, as when I used to pull them I have gotten to the lake and they were at home.

Yeppers, been there, done that.

I will most likely get to middle of lake with out my plug installed though.

All electronics are designed to withstand temperature cycles of -55C/125C (260 degrees F) for over 10 yrs. BUT, I would still stay far away from the edge of its capability. I would take it out and store it in better conditions.

Thanks for all of y'alls insight and experience! In the past I have taken my electronics off during the very heat of summer and put them inside the house (especially if I don't think I'll get to fish for an extended time). I've been so busy so far this summer that I just forgot to do that.

My Lowrance unit in the heat of the day the touch screen freezes up. I have drape a wet towel over it to cool it off and then it works fine.

I would pull it out and store it in the cool house. Heat is the enemy of electronics, especially when powered up. Without power the summer heat will shorten the life of the electronics, degrade the plastics, and do especially bad stuff to the display panels, especially the expensive color displays.

Why take a chance?
