Hi. I�m planning to move to the DFW from Oregon and debating whether to bring my boat or sell it and get a different one in Texas depending on its application in Texas water. The boat is a 17� welded aluminum deep V made by Gregor with a 40hp outboard. It�s similar to Klamath or Bayrunner, which only seem to be well known on the west coast. It�s a light weight boat but handles rough water surprisingly well. I�ve fished big lakes mostly trolling on windy (up to 10mph) days, Columbia River (big river), and coastal bays with no problem so long as I watch the weather. The boat is very stable but wouldn�t be suitable to stand on the bow to fish.

I want to fish mostly lakes once I move like Lewisville, Whitney, and occasionally Texoma. River is probably out of the question since it�s not a flat bottom. In lakes, I don�t know if people troll down there or stand and fish mostly. Mine is set up with downriggers. Should I bring my boat or sell it and buy something different once I get to Texas like Tracker Grizzly? Thank you in advance for any input.

YOUR boat dscrption makes it sound like my LOEW deep V with 50 horse that I have used on the lakes you mention. Bring it to texas and enjoy it. As forest Gump say that is all I have to say about that

Depends on what type fishing your going to do.
Personality from the looks of the boat in your post.
I would bring it. Lots of great places to fish with a rig like that.

Forgat to say about riers, the Brazos,trinity,red,sabineneches are compatible to my boat and you will find the to be more long manmade lakes and very different that the Willamette,Columbia.

Bring it down, as long as it won't cost you a fortune to transport it.

You ought to have to fun on places like Lewisville, Ray Roberts & Texoma chasing striped fish & catfish.

Keep it! Will make a great catfish boat. And no one will slam you for keeping eater sized catfish.

Thanks everyone! Sounds like I will bring it down then. I'm happy to hear it has a good use in Texas water because I like that boat.

One more question. Do I need my 6hp Mercury kicker? I bought it because up here we troll very slowly for salmon and kokanee between 1.5 and 2mph and Minn Kota is not strong enough for trolling in rivers here. If I troll with my 40hp Mercury, I can go as slow as 3 to 3.5mph. That's too fast for salmon and trout but maybe it's not for the bass type of fish in Texas. What's your trolling speed for striper or your other typical fish you target? Is trolling even a good way to fish in Texas lakes? If I don't need that kicker, I'll sell it and get a Minn Kota instead.

Sell it and get you an Ultrex. I don't anyone who trolls for bass but maybe some do for stripers, not sure. Pretty sure most striper fishermen use live bait. Hurry down and enjoy some of this Texas heat.

sell it and get a different one because bringing a boat and motor to Texas is a pain in the azz. You will need titles for both of them. Your trailer registration goes through your county or dept of Safety. (troopers)..

you are going to have to pay a tax on them and fill out a bunch paperwork if you do have the titles. If you don't nightmare time.

Get here and buy the boat you want. There are thousands for sale used and even more new.

Wow I did some research and it seems like there might be a problem. I don't mind paperwork but I have no information on the previous seller of my boat (it was years ago) and the outboard that came with it. All I have is a title of the vessel. In OR, we don't title outboards. Also, we don't have title/registration for small trailers (under 1,800lbs). I can't provide any proof of ownership for my boat trailer.

Texas Parks & Wildlife employees are reasonable people. A title to the boat is all you need. If Oregon does not title outboard motors, they surely have a solution. The trailer with no title is not a problem.
My advice to you is wait until Fall to move here. Even us natives are suffering from the heat at the present time. Also service those wheel bearings before the trip.

Sell it. You are in an area now where that type of boat is respected and will bring a little more money. We have plenty of used Bass Boats to choose from here in Texas.

Moving to TX with a boat isn�t hard. I didn�t have a title for my motor either. The paperwork isn�t all that bad if you have any common sense. Was in and out of the TX parks and wildlife office in like 20min during my lunch break. Just read what you need to bring and be ready

I am on the "Bring it" side.
While TX does make it harder than it should be some times on registration, you will get through it. The title to the boat is the key thing, as they issue boat numbers for the hull. You have a registration card for the boat. I have never been ask about the motor... Motor is a different title. But, selling a motor here without a title is hard.
We have a lot of wind here, all year long, and some of the bigger lakes - Whitney, Texoma, etc. can get a little rough. Striper are fun, and there are a lot of white bass and hybrid here also, that bigger lakes offer.
You have the boat paid for now. If it is not a big cost to bring it, and you are happy with the boat currently, keep it.
I would say maybe sell the little motor and invest in one of the newer Minn Kota's. The spotlock option is really nice when you are on a school, or fishing a hump out in middle of windy point, etc. You can probably get more for that up there, as they are not used as much here.
