This week on Lake Palestine....
First was Kermit, Denny and Kyle. These guys drove all the way from Mississippi to fish with me.
As a guide I am always nervous when people drive from far off. They booked two days with me. To be honest the first day was a disaster. With 20+ mph north winds I knew this was going to be hard. But we made a decision to give it a try instead of sitting in the hotel room.
I couldnt fish were I wanted and have been fishing because of the wind. So we hit brush out of the wind. Seemed like everywhere I went the wind was there. What few fish were there we caught the other did not want to bite. At the end of the trip we had very little to show, 8 embarrassing fish. I can deal with almost anything, but wind is a fishermans nightmare. These guys got a free boat ride! So at the end of the day I told them to wear your work clothes we are going to work on them tomorrow.
Day two with the Mississippi boys. With the 5mph west wind and everyone eager to catch fish we set sail. It was no time these boys were getting down and dirty with some big East Texas slabs. Great family to fish with, very fun personalities. We smoked them by the end of the day. They left with smiles and crappie in the cooler. Just wish day one wouldve panned our.
Next was Ronnie, Pastor Jack and Bill. It was Ronnies birthday. Happy Birthday, Ronnie!
Ronnie has never caught a 2lb+ crappie. He has been trying to do this for the last couple years. And I have been wanting to be the guide to put him on that 2lber. We have been trying the last three or four trips. Today it happened! Ronnie caught his personal best and #2.07.
These guys are a blast to fish with. I literally have to take an aspirin for my back from laughing so hard. I think a few times we forgot we were supposed to be fishing. Nothing like good clean fun to soothe the soul. We even had a little bit of church. Congratulations on an awesome fish. Proud for you buddy.
Next was Ben a returning client from Galveston. He booked two days. The first day he partnered up with Neil. These guys have fished and livescope with me before. So I didnt have to do much coaching. I just sat back and netted fish.
Day two was Ben again. This time he was solo. We have battled high winds all week long. Today was no exception. But we managed to touch it out and caught his limit. I even got to fish and catch a few.
Our little photo bomber was this sweet girl. She came up to the cleaning table and wanted her picture with the fish.
We are still on the submerged timber bite. We are in the peak summertime pattern. These fish have gotten very finicky. The only advice I can give is MOVE and dont let the dust settle on you. It doesnt matter what bait, size of bait, color, scented or not. You better move and cover a lot of water. I would say 90% of these fish are not going to bite. You have to go out and target the aggressive fish. Here are some screenshots of stuff we have been fishing.
