Can anybody tell me what kind of minnow this is? Never seen them before and managed to catch one of these in my net last night they were everywhere. Lewisville, TX
Based on the location, the fish is a Texas logperch (Percina carbonaria). To really tell I would need to see the dorsal fish that is not visible in the picture. The dorsal fin of the Texas logperch has an orange band on the 1st dorsal fin. A similar species is the logperch (Percina caprodes). The logperch typically only occurs in the Red River. The reason for the distinction is that the logperch (Percina caprodes) is a species of special concern in Texas.
Definitely a Log Perch. Caught my first on Grapevine about 20 years ago. Didnt catch any for few years. Probably caught 2 dozen on Lewisville this year.
