Is Luminant going to finish reclamation on the land. I would think removing the plant would be part of the process if they have not done that yet, along with a permanent fix to the dam.

I launch on the bank next to the ramp, with my rv, I suppose with a regular pick up you would have to get your feet wet possibly... I have never launched on the ramp itself. Its too steep for all the stick out of my rv, my hitch would end up 3 feet or more in the air.

Doubt they would do anything with the plant for awhile. Things could change and coal become more of an option in the future. Only constant is change.

The bank to the left of the ramp(facing lake & ramp) is actually the old original ramp. Both have always been fine but Ill bet the old ramp would become problematic (to flat without any deep water off the end) about the time the newer steeper ramp becomes a problem with trailers dropping off the end when Sandlin gets a couple feet below full pool which it has a history of. Good news is Sandlin wont be used to supply water to Monticello for the extreme evaporation Monti experienced because of the high temperatures running the plant all summer(as if the plant shut down was a good thing)! The park was built by and managed by Titus County until just recently. Going to show my age but anyone remember the older backwoods man who used to work the gate for many, many years? He was an interesting study! When he left the county park went to a self pay system.

He would always ask us if we thought we could catch an OVER. Then he would say well boys..........the only thing for sure is if you put your finger in the water it's going to get wet!

The day after catching a lot of fish is still a good day.

Thomas was interesting to say the least. Also remember talking to a Monti guide who fished out of a crappy old stick steering boat. Jerry Dean. Ended up later being the host of Honey Hole Magazine(show). Getting lost in the fog pre GPS days, fishing all night in the dead of winter, seeing Bob Garcia sitting on his hump(named after him).......Good Times!

All of the plants that have been retired will be torn down because of taxes. Taxes are only about 10% if there is not a plant there. All of the mine land will by law have to be reclaimed however I am not sure that the plant site will be more than just cleaned up after demo.
There is also a possibility that the switch yard will stay in place and be functional.

Thomas and the misses were good people... how many years ago did he pass away? The days I remember on Monticello had Gerald Roebuck fishing out of his Tidecraft and another guide if I remember correctly he drowned on Welsh? But Gerald was a great guy, helped me out many times. I still remember seeing Bob Garcia out there often. I sunk my first boat I ever owned on Monticello a 1973 Skeeter Baron back in 1987...

Tommy Milam was a full time guide there and also fished out of a Tidecraft Wildfire. He was sponsored by Tidecraft. He always came curving through Smith on plane. Pre GPS days. One day he didnt make it! Heard it a long ways off! bump

Times sure have changed, talking about Monticello in the dog days of Summer instead of the middle of Winter.
White bass in the lake now and about a 2 foot lower normal pool level. Summer time water temps in low 80's instead of upper 90's.

We'll if the fish are biting I guess it's still worth going and many other Texas lakes have changed too.

Slide right, coming in .... Fish On!

Yep TxDan I am sure you recall the first time we went was in the summer when it was still Lake Blundell. We drove that back road to the upper end and fished out of float tubes... the day was hot, the water was hotter and the fishing was really hot. cheers
