We were on Lake X Saturday afternoon about 2:30 and there was only one other trailer at the ramp when we arrived. Unloaded and started fishing up a bank and the only other boat on the entire lake comes across the lake and gets about 75 yds. in front of me drops his trolling motor and starts fishing. Don't mind fishing behind someone but when you are the only 2 boats on the entire lake, the other boat should really find another place to fish. I do fully understand that it is public water but a little bit of fishing etiquette goes a long way with another fisherman. Just a little frustrating to be in that situation.

People are social animals, You should feel elated that someone realized how good you are and wanted to fish near you.

So what if its a good spot, show a little restraint and back off. Go chase sandbass.

Years ago I lived on the Colorado River 12 miles below the Hoover dam. Willow Beach Resort. My wife and daughter and I sat down in lawn chairs on the bank, had poles in the water, no other fisherman or boats in sight. We were waiting for a just before dark bite that often occurred. A boat comes and anchors, 15 feet from shore directly in front of us right over our lines. At 1rst I was pretty polite, asking the guy to at least move out a little so we could share the water and so our lines wouldn't tangle. He told me rudely that I don't own the water and to "F" off. That's when I lost my temper, I jumped into the water and started swimming laps around his boat. He actually tried to hit me with a lure. Eventually He left, We did too no one caught any fish. I was pretty immature back then. I found out later that he was from California and that he had made a 4 million $ offer to buy the resort. The offer was low and was rejected, the actual resort owner thought the whole incident was pretty funny. He thought the guy was a pompous A$$.

I feel the same way when I go to the trouble of parking all by myself in the back row of a half empty parking lot, only to come back to my truck and find some deadbeat driving a two-door beater parked right beside me.

a good rule of thump on closeness is if you can cast an hit an oncoming boat they are too close respect other fishermen or at some point you might get taught some respect if more folks would say something at the time instead of whining about it on the net less of it would happen.

.just maybe.... THAT was HIS favorite spot and he was saving it till LATER
& he feels like you moved in on his spot and was going to catch or spook his LATER fish.
. just maybe .
did you ease up and ask nicely ,,,,,,,, why he came over to fish that spot ? Was there something special he could share with you ? Had he caught nice ones here before ?
just maybe . he would share nicely with you

Wait a minute, I fished Lake X the day after the BASS Toyota Texas Fest a couple months ago. That is NOT public water.

Lake X must not be very good fishing if there were only "2" boats on the lake
so what does it matter how close the boats fish together --- neither is probably going to catch anything at all
I think I would pick another lake
