Even those scary black rifles.

What's with the 'almost' sideways grip of their weapon that many LEOs are using on felony traffic stops, warrant service, breaches, etc.?

Is it just for show on Live PD and similar media?

I think its for improved visibility, particularly when approaching someone seated. Just a guess.

That was my first guess, TR.

Just want confirmation from those who employ that grip, or know why. I was taught differently and would never approach a deadly situation with my firearm in that position.

Unless I was forced to.

Hopefully, this thread will help us all learn something.

I'm personally a big fan of the over exaggerated C Clamp grip myself.

Just finished season three of Shooter. In the last episode, he runs towards a guy shooting at him with his handgun he sideways. I thought it was ridiculous, because he is supposed to be former special ops or whatever and he help it like a gangster. I thought it was just poor directing. Now youre seeing it on Live PD? Weird.

Improved visibility and oftentimes the Buttstock isnt a natural fit between the vest and body often causing people to compromise. Canted single hand shooting creates a better shooting brace in the arm for controlling recoil

I don't do a lot of shooting, but I do a fair amount of boxing and martial arts, and I'd assume these shooters are utilizing some similar principles. When you think about the body's mechanics, your natural hand/palm orientation, when you extend your arms, is a canted 45 degree angle. You have much more control in that position, as opposed to a vertical orientation of the wrist.
