If it was used for generating electricity then that would be it's purpose as part of the power grid which should qualify I would think?
If not, then yes it might be a hard sell.

I agree sir.

More lakes to be drained. Some speculate this is in response to the lawsuit filed but who knows.

Naaaahhhh sarcastic

Actually it was a miracle than nobody lost their life when that dam gave way.
Possible that it could happen again with not so good of an outcome, so I think they are wise by taking action of draining those lakes until they can be inspected, but I wouldn't want to be the inspector who puts his name on the line by passing them.

Probably what GBRA would hope for, to shift the blame for something happening if draining the lakes were delayed.
If the situation is as bad as they (experts) say, then why wait?

GBRA doesn't have much choice now that two gates have failed. It is a liability issue now. The lawsuit doesn't have any weight in their decision. If the lawsuit was allowed to move forward, it will be in court for many many years. I don't see where there is any basis for McQueeny property owners to file a suit. What have they lost? They have to prove a loss, and no one has lost a dime until they sell the property.
If GBRA lowers the lakes as they say, why not make repairs to existing gates as needed instead of replacing them with 15 million dollar fancy gates? These gate have worked for a long time.

I think the question would be, to what extent would the repairs go?
Would it be a halfarsed job replacing only parts that are obviously worn and leave other parts as is just because they deem to be serviceable, but still be almost a century old, and the cost would still be pretty high, or just replace the entire gates?
The smart thing would be replace them all at one time!

And therein lies the problem. Cost to repair by GBRA's estimate would be impossible. If you will recall, they chose the most expensive type of gate that was, in their opinion, the only choice. To fix them all would be over 100 million bucks. And they knew that would never happen. Just get ready for the new normal.
