what size line do you use for your line? This is a technique I have been using a lot for the last 2-3 months and have had a ton of luck with it and really enjoy it, but I know I'm using way too heavy line for it, as I just started using it on to a rig I already had set up.

I use 8lb.Big Game. The guys I know that are really serious about it use a braided main line and Flouro leader. I have seen one guide that uses a pretty heavy line and drop shotted full sized baits like flukes and trick worms.

I use 10# test line on my baitcaster. Low as I go. If a VERY timber heavy lake, I go with 12 or 14. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Did a LOT of dropshotting out west before moving here. 20 braid main line. I prefer high-vis stuff. Helps to see if your line is straight in windy situations. You definitely want to use a fluorocarbon leader. 8-10lb test is good for our water clarity here. Sunline makes a great leader spool called FC leader. If youre fishing heavy timber, step up to 14-15lb line like the guys said. I use a FG knot to connect leader to my main line. Tight lines!

...For drop shotting with spinning reels..I prefer Berkeley.Nanofil 12# (it lasts forever and cast a mile) and will always have at least a 3-foot 6 pound or 8 pound seaguar fluorocarbon leader..

I usually use 30lb suffix 832 braid with 8lb Seaguar red label fluoro leader. I use a Loomis IMX PRO DSR rod with a Pflueger President reel.
I have played with the FG knot and a barrel double swivel. Prefer the FG knot as I don't think the spinning set up suffers issues on line twist all that much.
Recently have been just going braid direct and don't really notice any significant difference in total bites.

Braid main line is best for my to avoid line twists, I use 50# typically because I already have it laying around. Then I use 8# tatsu leader, about 25 ft leader. I use this around timber, open water, grass, everywhere. I have had 7-8#ers wrapped in dock pilings and never had an issue. I think reel is important here though, I use either a sustain or stradic and typically have them both on the deck most of the time. I use roboworm rebarb hooks for cover, 1/0 typically, in order to keep from having to set the hook hard which helps with the light line. I use everything from finese worms to flukes and 10" worms.
Lighter line helps with the action of the bait.

I use these for my hooks. When y'all say main line would y'all be talking about the line that would go to the top of this swivel hook or would your leader go to it, and tie a lighter line from the bottom of the hook? I currently have 15lb to the top and 11lb from the bottom to the weight.

10 pound Pline Premium most of the time. On real clear lakes I will drop down to 8. Not sure what the purpose of the hook you have pictured. Just tie your hook on with a palomar knot and run the tag end back through the eye.
I hate photobucket.

I use 20lb braid to a 6lb InvisX leader. Its all about the reel and ya gotta get one with the best, smoothest drag. I very seldom break off a fish. I have caught them up to 9 lbs on Athens using one. It takes a little nerve to know its a big one and let the reel sing. But....the lighter line helps fool the smarter, bigger fish.

Not sure what the purpose of the hook you have pictured. it's so it dosen't twist, and you can run a lighter line to the weight so if you get hung up on the weight only that leader breaks off and you keep your hook.
