Try The Plaza, Obuelo's and Leal's. All very good plus there are dozens of the more authentic mexican places and food trucks.

Without question, El Bracero on 6th street is the best. The Plaza and Obuelo's are very good. Leal's is average.

Not Tex-Mex, but 575 Pizza is excellent.

In a new area I check both Yelp and TripAdvisor, order the listings by highest rating, and try hard to hit something in the top ten percent of all restaurants in the city.

Obuelo's, Leal's and the Plaza, as others have mentioned are very good! I have heard that El Bracero is very good, but the place is pretty small and the two times I went by the place was packed, so I went elsewhere.

Give me a shout when you hit town...I'm 30 minutes away. Here are a few good spots:
Mexican: El Bracero, La Manatial, Abeulos, The Plaza
Italian: 575 Pizza, Vince's, Pescaraz
Pub Grub: Firehouse, Golden Light, Smoky Joes
Hidden Gems: Coyote Bluff, Scott's Oyster Bar, Macaroni Joes
Chicken Fried Steak: Green Chili Williys, Youngbloods
Burgers: Blue Sky
Breakfast: Butterlove Biscuits, Ye Olde Pancake Station, Calico County
Fish: Come to Lake Meredith, catch Walleye, and we'll cook it at my house
Bars: Several but Six-Car is pretty cool

Bracero on 6th killer, Poblano’s downtown has a great chili rellano as well as the Plaza. Lupitas is a great for lunch or breakfast tacos. El Tejavan is underrated and have friends that like that place a lot.
