One of my favorite rig components is a Kwik Klip (I believe that's what Korda calls their's anyway). But basically it lets you change hooklinks (fancy carp term for leader) on the fly, kind of like those quick-change snaps surf guys use for plugging. It's helpful if you're experimenting with different hook sizes, hooklink lengths, baits, or if a pesky turtle forces you to break off... you can tie up a bunch of hair rigs and always be ready to put a new one on without having to tie any knots (when I tie my hair rigs I tie a loop knot at the non-hook end of my hooklinks, which I can just slide onto the Kwik Klip in a matter of seconds). At least with the Korda ones, you definitely need a rubber sleeve material so that you can hide the changing end of the clip, otherwise your hooklink will always want to come unhooked from the Kwik Klip.

Not a carp, but I caught my PB Smallmouth Buffalo on a med-heavy ProCat rod spooled with hi-vis 15lb catfish mono. That was the biggest of 3 buffs we caught that day, all on the same rod. Only catch was I was using back leads, which keep the line pinned to the bottom of the lake bed. So maybe that�s why it didn�t bother them. I should also add that I now do use dark green line, but I think you can get away with using hi-vis personally.

I use a 6.6' ugly stick rod with 20 pound electric blue mono when fishing for carp most of the time. I put them in vertical rod holders and watch my carp fishing buddies cringe every time they see my rods sticking straight up in the air. I have caught several state records using this method so I think it works ok. When carp are actively feeding they churn up the bottom so line color may not matter as much. In very clear lakes it could make a difference.

LOL! Nothing wrong fishing tips up, in rivers it's pretty much mandatory and often I'll set up rods for friends/family just like you do. At the end of the day fishing is all about fun and while one technique may or may not be better than another it's all down to personal preference. With your records there's no doubt your method works!
