If you have a Barndo or has a friend that has one the wife and I would like to talk with you. We are going to scale down and sell our place 7 acres with 3 BR 2300 sq ft two story house with 2 shops, and build a Barndominium on some other land we own.

I don't have one but like the idea. We have a metal framed house with no wood except cabinets. But as we were building it almost 20 years ago, I thought why not just build a metal shed and finish it out. You could spend much more on the inside for a nicer finish, and it would be so much more efficient to build. If I were doing it over, a barndo would be the route I would go. See lots of them on acreages in our area.

I've read that there is no financial advantage to doing the barndominium thing. A guy down the road from me here about 3 miles is doing one. Very big warehouse size metal building (60x120?) and finished living quarters in one end. Been working on it for 6 months so far. I met and talked to him once at the Kioti dealership .... came across as a bit of a richard.

We are in the process of building one out at the Ranch. The slab, septic, and electrical and exterior structure are in. Stained concrete flooring living area is 50x50. The wife is still picking out all the finishes, if we went semi custom we would be in for ~$45 sq. ft. But by the time she is done I'm certain we will be closer to $75 sq. Still not bad compared to standard construction cost.

Those things are cool as hell . I don�t own one but I�m in one at least every other week putting up there doors in the shop side.

Let me know hopalong what you would change. I'm a Sr. Superintendent for a Large GC company building Hospitals, over 30 years but have never built a shop /home to live in.

you should come look at ours before you build. ours is overbuilt to last a LOOONG time. we had the external building erected, then built the 2x4 walls within the building. 4" of building insulation, then we have the spray foam insulation in all exterior walls and roof within the metal shell. we are very efficient.

I spent about 30 yrs. building residential and commercial, will put a list together and msg ya.

We did lannie. Building has separate insulation on the metal.
