I have an older bass boat now but considering replacing it. I was thinking two boats and buying a pontoon until I drove one a few weeks ago pulling a tube, I did not like the pontoon at all! Now considering fish and ski and just one boat. I love to fish the rest of the family like to tube and play. I also take people crappie fishing quite a bit. Considering Skeeter or Ranger 20 footer with max HP. Any opinions?? Especially from folks currently fishing from something like this?? Down side I can see is windshield (casting), lower front deck(pitching), and rod storage and probably some performance. What say ye??

See you on the lake and have a great day!

I have a 2006 Skeeter SL210 fish and ski. I bought it because I bass fish and my wife liked to crappie fish. Upside is it is more comfortable for the wife to fish out of and has more seating for more people. Downside is rod storage. More than a couple of rods get cramped.

Over the years my wife has given up fishing and I have bought a bass boat and getting ready to put the Skeeter back on the market.

I would look at a Ranger 620 or maybe a Reata, those boats are bad to the bone multi species boats but could easily double as tube pulling family fun boat. You can flip, pitch, cast off the bow of one of those all day long.

I fish from a 2013 Skeeter SL210. It was a compromise because my wife wanted a boat more comfortable than a standard bass boat. She thought we'd be doing more tubing/skiing but we never have.

I'm more of a crappie/white bass fisherman than largemouth bass, but in my experience the deck height and windshields have been minimal problems while casting.

My only real issues with the boat are the limited console space to mount electronics (upgraded my fishfinder to a larger screen and still not happy with where/how it is mounted); and, as texassurveyor said, the lack of rod storage.

Biggest upside: can comfortably seat five people including me. Can also put down the deck cushions and seat another two but I've done that only once.

I'm probably going fishing this weekend, either Ray Roberts or Coffee Mill, if you're about and want to give my boat a spin.

Been fishing out of this Astro for nearly 3 years. 20' w 200efi merc. Similar to the Ranger / Skeeter layouts, which is to say it's more fish than ski. Basically a bass boat with the front deck shortened and console moved fore to make room for the extra seats.

t's ok for fishing but not great. Rod storage is biggest drawback. Front deck space next. I think the ride is a little rougher because you're closer to the bow. Thought windshield would bother me but really hasn't much so far. Deck is same height as tournament style boat so no prob there. Performance is great. My boat will run 60 with full tackle and dos gordos on board.

Unless you have multiple boats, gotta compromise. If I were you, I'd check out some bay boats for sure and maybe CC

I have a 17 Ranger Reata 212LS with a Mercedes 250 ProXS and like it. Its a dream boat for most people but I bought it as my retirement boat to have fun with grandkids and fishing. However, my son purchased a large surf boat Mastercraft making the ski aspect gone. Ive been shopping for a center console now which will still pull an occasional tube but is easier to get around in. Drawbacks to the FnS are rod storage, waste of space where the windshield is and doing everything good but nothing great. On the plus side, the windshield is unbeatable fishing in the early spring for wind protection in the cold. Nothing comes close. Dont get me wrong, I could live with this thing the rest of my life and be very happy but I think the CC would be a better fit. Some day, Ill learn how to post pics of my rig from an iPad onto this forum.

You will absolutely LOVE being behind that glass when its cold outside or raining. My brother had a 19ft fish n ski, fished great... only issue I ever had was with a tungsten weight versus the windshield. That curved glass aint cheap! He always preferred to sit on a butt seat while fishing so the smaller front deck really didnt make a huge difference to him.

I fish out of a 20ft procraft fish/ski. As Buda said....it is terrific in the cold and rain. The front deck is probably the size of a 16/17ft bass boat though. It works for me. Can fish all I want, take 5 or 6 people out safely, ski/tube. It has plenty of storage but no rod box. My rods fit very well in between the seats though. I can store 8-10 on each side and they are completely out of the way.

I had one as a compromise family type boat, not the greatest for fishing or rod storage but better than a regular ski boat which was the only other option at the time. Shorter decks and more cushions to take care of. Second console seemed to always be in the way when fishing. Finally was allowed to trade in on a tournament style bass boat when most of the skiing/tubing days were over...... happy, happy, happy

I have a Ranger Angler and its been great. Rod box that holds 10 rods. Side storage for two long rods. Has a bait well and a large live well. I dont have the full windshield so it doesnt interfere with bass fishing. It has comfortable seating for four and can pull a tube just fine. Its a great crappie boat as well. The deep v Hull handles the Amistad and Falcon waves quite well.

My first boat was a F/S, it was a great boat, lots of storage two live wells, trolling motor. Seat six comfortably, two big built in ice chest. I has that boat for 16 years. One thing it did better than my bass boat; it was great for bed fishing bass. The front deck was at least 12" higher than my bass boat. The height helps you see the fish.
